Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth II!

The rather lucky Queen Elizabeth II has two birthdays and today her Official Birthday will be celebrated with the annual Queen’s Birthday Parade, or “Trooping the Colour”, when the 1st Battalion Scots Guards will troop the colour in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen, on Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall, in Central London.

Below is a video from a rehearsal of last year’s Trooping the Colour:-

1,301 people have been honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, with actor Colin Firth being awarded a CBE and entertainer Bruce Forsythe being knighted. You can find out more about the list at http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2011/jun/11/queens-birthday-honours-2011-list?intcmp=239

A belated Happy Birthday too to Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who turned 90 yesterday. Perhaps a bottle of bubbly is in order today!

  2. Many happy returns to them both. I have just watched the trooping of the colour on T.V. a wonderful sight, and you could see on both of their faces that they really enjoyed the event too.

  3. The English really know how to put on a show! Nice way to celebrate your birthday and a happy birthday to Prince Philip as well.

  4. Happy Belated Birthday to both Queen Elizabeth & Prince Philip. Oh I do love our English pomp and ceremony. It does make me feel proud to be English

  5. Abolish the monarch! We do not have a place for it in a modern society and all this is a waste of public money. In any event the Queen is too old: she should step aside for Prince Charles or William.
