Is there any known reasoning why Henry did not arrange a marriage for his daughter, Mary?

Henry VIII actually arranged many betrothals/marriages for Mary but none of them came to anything. Like any royal princess, she was a diplomatic pawn, used to form treaties with France and Spain. I think Henry liked to keep his options open, but also Mary lost her "marketability" when she was made illegitimate and lost her status of princess and her claim to the throne. I think that's why she was still unmarried when Henry died.

  1. Linda says:

i suspect he kept her on English soil because he was afraid she might spill the beans on everything that happened. He couldn’t seem to get along with France or Spain long enough to decide and he had such a large ego that he couldn’t stand ridicule from either. Especially France and he probably feared Spain more if she was there.
    Just my uneducated opinion.
