What We Wish Anne Had Said by Anon
“Good Christian people, currently masquerading as back-stabbing parasites, I have not come here to preach a sermon, as my gobby brother did, I have come here to die. For according to the law, which is a complete ass, I am judged to die, and therefore I will speak nothing against it, save to say ‘I was done’. I am come hither to accuse no man, except the jury, the judges and everyone else who had a hand in it, nor to speak of that whereof I am accused and condemned to die, even though it’s a pack of lies. But I pray God save the King, because he’s going to need it, and send him long to reign over you, but not too long, for a gentler nor a more merciful prince was there never, and when I say never I mean never. And to me he was ever a good, a gentle and sovereign lord, until he became disillusioned and turned on me like a homicidal maniac. And if any person will meddle of my cause, feel free, because I require them to judge the best, of me that is and not Henry. And I take my leave of the world and of you all, you pack of hyenas, and I heartily desire you all to pray for me, and for yourselves because for most of you this will be you in another few years time.”
Yay! Way to go, Anne!
Oh my God, if only Anne had been able to say this! Those who condemned her would’ve deserved it, and more. But she knew the flack would have fallen on Elizabeth and so she gave that wonderfully dignified speech we all know so well. She was a brave woman right through the end. We love you, Anne.
So funny! I would only add one thing:
“And as for that whimpering Jane Seymour, she’d better hope to have a son and right soon or her smarmy neck will be in danger too. Henry might think he’s in love now but if no son comes, he’ll find another – and another – and another – and another!”
OMG! I love this! 🙂
Love it!!! If only she could have.
Love it!
Woo-hoo! That felt good!
Oh yes…LOL…amazing!!
It’s like you’re reading between the lines of what Anne said to get the true meaning of her words!
Love it!
Excellent!
I can only imagine what she was thinking and feeling as she walked the last steps to the scaffold. It would have been awesome if she could have said how she felt at the time. However, she showed how brave she was and what she would do to protect her daughter Elizabeth.
As for Henry, I hope that his soul suffers for eternity! He is so out of touch with reality, he probably would still ask what he did wrong?
Does anyone know if Anne wrote letters to Elizabeth and what they would have said?
RIP!
Maggy,
That would be another interesting exercise if Claire wanted to do another in the future.
I have never heard of any source that states she wrote to Elizabeth. Since Elizabeth was not even 3 yet, I doubt that she did and if she did write any letter, Henry would have had them destroyed. Although I would like to think that somehow she found a way to hide a letter with someone and it was eventually given to Elizabeth when she became Queen.
