Mary I – Bloody Mary, a failure queen? – Zoom Debate

New Bonus zoom debate – Mary I – Bloody Mary, a failure queen?

Transcript:

Hello!
It’s not long now until my Discovering Mary I event starts on 16th January 2023 and I thought it would be fun, in the lead up to the event, to do a zoom video debate with historian Johanna Strong.

Johanna’s PhD thesis is about how Mary I’s legacy and reputation were posthumously created, and she believes that Mary deserves to be reassessed and rehabilitated. So, for the debate, I’m going to play devil’s advocate and attack Mary I’s reputation as a woman and queen, and Johanna will defend Mary using her meticulous research into Mary I’s life and reign.

I can’t wait, I really do love playing devil’s advocate and I know Johanna’s defence will be spirited and brilliant.

Johanna and I will be the main speakers, but we’ll open it up for questions and give chance for participants to share their points of view. It will be a live video zoom call. Johanna and I are really excited about doing this. It will be fun and enlightening.

The zoom call will take place on Sunday 8th January 2023 at 10pm UK time/ 5pm New York time.

Fancy getting involved?

All you have to do is sign up for “Discovering Mary I” before the end of Saturday 31st December 2022. I might have to close registration early as I want to limit spaces so that everyone who wants to can have their say not only in this zoom call, but also the event Q&A session. Everyone already registered before the end of 31st December will receive an invitation for the private zoom debate.

As I said, the main event starts on 16th January and runs until 27th January. It’s completely online and features 8 historians, all experts in Tudor history. It will include video talks, live streams and Q&A sessions, all on Mary I, plus everything will be recorded and the talks will be transcribed. You’ll have lifetime access to the event resources so don’t worry if you can’t log in every day.

Many of those who’ve registered so far have been involved in my previous events, so that shows just how much people enjoy these online events. It really is wonderful to connect with experts and other Tudor history lovers from the comfort of your own home.

Register right now at https://claireridgway.com/events/mary-2023/ where you can also find out all the details including the schedule and what you get. I can’t wait to talk Tudor with you!
