Recently ordered the book off of Play.com

Wondered if anyone on the site had read it and could give me their thoughts on it? It seems an interesting concept, with Elizabeth reading her mother's diary, but I am unsure if it will be a good read.

This was one of the first historical novels I read on Anne and in my opinion one of the better ones.  I've re-read it several times since, not something I always do with historical fiction!  What I liked particularly was Elizabeth and Anne in the same book and how the author managed to convey both women's personalities pretty well.  A good choice you've made – hope you enjoy it.

Robin Maxwell is a fine author.  All of her books have been good.  Definitely read Secret Diary.  I don't think you will be disappointed.

One of the best historical fictional novels written about Anne and Elizabeth. Robin Maxwell is such a fantastic writer, and she really brings Anne's life to live. I found that reading the book, as Elizabeth was reading her mother's diary, I got such insight into two formidable women. While fiction, Maxwell uses history to her advantage, and does not dilute the facts. Great choice of novel and enjoy reading it.

Yes, it's really good! I love Robin Maxwell's books (especially both about Anne) and I'd recommend reading Mademoiselle Boleyn first, about Anne's time at the French Court.

Just picked this up today, so when I finish the 4th Matthew Shardlake book (Revelation), it will be next!

Yes i have read this novel, it was quite a while ago, but from what i can remember i enjoyed it, might have to give it another read now.  I prefered this bits about annes story to the bits of elizabeth, so i was quite glad there wasnt that much in there about elizabeth, but a good read though

I too preferred the Anne bits. That said, it was an interesting and unique concept, and I think Robin Maxwell is fantastic! Also, out of most historical authors, (and she herself has said this) she gives Anne the kindest portrayal. Can't argue with that 😀
