Ok so I have always wondered why on earth they depicted Katherine Howard as practising laying her head on the block while naked.  I know that she did request the block to practise with, but I doubt she did it with no clothes on.

So I watched this episode again the other day, and something ocurred to me. In the show they depict Katherine as being very much in love with Culpeper, and we see her devastation when she sees his impaled head on her way to the tower.  And this might be totally way off the mark and a completely ridiculous idea, but I was thinking that maybe they depicted her as doing this with the block as an attempt by her for a last way of being 'close' to him  – as the block would have been the last thing he had contact with before he died.

Hmm maybe i'm just rambling haha.

Catalina,

Since I have no clue why they filmed Katherine naked in that scene, other than to show her naked one last time, your deduction is fine with me.

Sorry Catalina but although your theory is great, I think it's far too intelligent for The Tudors. I actually think the reason for the scene is that Hirst is a pathetic pervert with the mental capacity of a particularly grubby toilet.

i agree. There was an unusual desire to have huge amounts of naked flesh on the show.

It's always bunnies.

I think they wanted people to watch it and be interested and maybe they thought putting tons of sex and nudity would solve the problem. Personally i skipped the sexual/nudity scenes most of the time. The Tudors should of been made for people who are actually interested in Tudor times, not for people to tune in just because the show is known for girls being naked 24/7. I would have understood if there were a few of them, like with Henry and his wives and mistresses but there was some un needed sex scenes, or so i thought.

Yeah, I used to find myself rolling my eyes when yet another sex scene was portrayed, and would skip it.

Yeah they got soo old and most people don't say that about sex scenes. I was just like 'another one?!' And my brother, who as a guy is naturally programmed to like naked girls and what not, he even got annoyed within watching one season (seas 3).

I really like your idea, Catalina!

But I have to agree – this idea would be too intelligent for The Tudors.

At first, I was really really irritated when I saw Catherine naked during the block scene. I thought it to be so…unfitting.

My second thought on this matter was only a cynical “Well, yes, she's about to die soon, so of course the audience has to see her naked one more time before it's too late!”

I am not prudish or anything, but the sex scenes of Catherine and Thomas in the 4th season were waaay too much. I think it is basically a pity that Tamzin Merchant, who did a great job at portraying her character, was reduced to her nakedness most of the time, not her acting skills.

And Mr. Hirst downright marvels me big time. He wrote some of the most emotional scenes I have ever seen, scenes that moved me to tears and made me sad and yet were so beautiful – and then he goes on and writes other scenes that are ridculously focused on naked flesh, with no sense to them.

When I want to watch p*rn, I get a p*rn movie..seeing this at a time when my older 2 were still up was distrubing for them. And lead to questions that I answered because I try not to hide things from them….

” Mom…why is she prancing around naked in a room with no heat in Feb ? That's just too silly….”

” Yes…yes it is!”

It's always bunnies.

I like you're theory Catalina; I was annoyed when I first saw this scene, but I think perhaps this was intentional-or it would be nice to think that some thought had been put into it. I also wondered if it was done to highlight her vunerability.
