This may be a silly post but once again my curious-ness got the best of me…

Um, so I know Anne Boleyn is known for her dark hair and eyes but what about the other wives? For Katherine of Aragon I see black hair and blue eyes like in The Tudors, for Jane I see Blue and blonde, for Anna of Cleves I see a light brown with blue eyes, Katheryn Howard I see aurburn hair and brown eyes, and for Catherine Parr I see brown hair and green maybe blue eyes(?). And also for Henry VIII….obviously he had red hair but eye color? Uh, I usually go with blue but sometimes I think like a light brown.

I think Anne's hair was darker than a lot of people think. Katherine of Aragon had mousey brown hair with a reddish hue and blue eyes. Jane Seymour had very very light colouring – pale blue eyes, very white skin etc (I imagine almost albino like?) and blonde hair. Anne of Cleves had brown/hazel eyes if going by the Holbein portrait. Her eyebrows look dark brown, but her sister had very bright red hair, so its possible she was a red head too…  Katherine Howard had dark auburn/brown hair and brown eyes (maybe she reminded Henry of Anne?). Katherine Parr had blue/grey eyes, the hair colour changes in portraits from blonde to auburn. I imagine her blonde.

From my understanding, KOA had auburn hair, blue eyes, and a fair complexion. She did not have the “classical” Spanish looks a la The Tudors. Rather, she took after her English ancestors, Catherine of Lancaster, who was described as having blue eyes, reddish-blonde or auburn hair, with a fair complexion.

Anne's looks are well documented, but it seems most people were taken by her dark eyes. It seems she had dark hair (the hue seems to be a contentious issue), and an olive complexion (swarthy).

Jan Seymour was blond, blue eyed, and very fair. She was the epitome of the “English Rose.”

Anne of Cleves, from the Holbein portrait, is quite pretty. She appears to have dark eyes (brown or hazel), and I imagine her to have brown or red hair .

Catherine Howard (from the Holbein miniature) appears to have auburn hair, dark eyes, and a fair complexion. I recall reading she was pretty and plump, which was the standard for beauty in the Tudor era.

Katherine Parr was a blonde, since there is a lock of her hair on display at Sudley Castle, and had blue eyes. I feel The Tudors got KP right. Joely Richardson was perfect and exactly how I imagine KP.

Henry was a red head with blue eyes.

Okay so then maybe if anyone decides to make another movie or TV show they should give KOA the right hair color because she has black hair in Tudors, OTBG, Anne of a thousands days.. etc etc but I bet whoever was just making her live up to the known 'spanish' colouring instead of actuality.

For Anne, I don't know, I actually see her having a chocolate-ish brown instead of a dark dark almost black brown. As for the eyes, well, the documentation seems to say it all – dark and captivating which perfectly describes Anne.

Jane is I guess the second easiest, she was blonde, blue eyed, fair skinned which was considered 'Tudor beauty', right? But the funny thing is that she was also described as very plain and not that good looking which proves them all wrong cause Anne had dark everything yet I bet she was 10x more prettier than Jane who had the 'Tudor looks'.

For Ms. Anna of Cleves I honestly don't know what was going through Henry's mind when he said she was ugly cause looking at her portrait…she's definately not ugly. And something that bothers me is that the hoods in portraits hide any hint of hair which sucks.

Oh, and I agree Joely Richardson was great and fits the Catherine Parr look BUT in the portraits of her she has a darker brown hair color yet there is a lock of hair that was found and it was blonde….(????)

If you want to see a reddish-blond and blue eyed KOA, please check out Starkey's tv series “Henry Mind of a Tyrant.” You can search for it on Youtube. It's an interesting series, but it was refreshing to see an actress who resembled KOA's colouration. It seems most pop culture representations of KOA reflect the stereotype about what Spainards are supposed to look like.

As for Anne, her hair changes colour depending on which portrait. I imagine she was more chestnut brown than black, but it would have stood out amongst the blondes of the court. I guess it was Anne's wit and intelligence most found attractive. She was not the prettest face, but she knew how to compensate in other ways, which (to me) make her more interesting and enduring.

I always believed KP to be an auburn, too. It was only after finding some articles online was I aware she was blonde.

Is it possible that Katherine Parr's lock of hair has faded somewhat in the past several centuries?

Both of these locks of hair are said to belong to Catherine Parr. I think the blonde one is confirmed to have faded over time. I imagine she had dark blonde hair, almost brown?

Not 100% about the first one.

Anne of Cleves varies to me, in the Holbein she looks pretty, but in other paintings she looks rather different.

Anne of Cleves 1530's. Her eyes seem a little Anne like to me?

Another portrait of Anne of Cleves. From the workshop of Barthel Bruyn the Elder in Cologne. X-rays have revealed a longer nose under the top layer of paint.

There's a whole bunch of portraits here –

She appears to have had a rather large nose, perhaps why Henry thought she looked like a horse?

Her sister was very pretty –

Yeah, I read about the larger nose and X-ray thing. Gosh! Why can't someone invent a time machine take a bunch of pictures then come back and show us everything!? C'mon people! LOL.

-Wow, Anna's sister was beautiful, I can't imagine why Anna wouldn't be either. Maybe Henry's vision and mind like got completely messed up after that whole horse fall, I mean only after the fall did he completely turn against Anne, then he married Jane…enough said, called Anna of Cleves ugly, had a mid life crisis type of thing with Katheryn Howard, and then finally calmed down a little with Catherine Parr. It's like he turned into a complete and utter psycho. 'shudders'.

I've seen Katherine Parr's hair at Sudley Castle, I was like “OMG” this is Katherine's hair!

I may be wrong but I also think there is a tiny piece of material belonging to her dress.

Oh my, wow, an actual piece of history! I'd die if I saw those in person, just like with Anne's clock and writing on the prayer book and then Elizabeth's christening gown and Henry's armour. It just so darn cool!  LOL Laugh

Annette Crosbie played a pale/grey  haired version in the 1970 BBC serial The Six Wives of Henry VIII.

Frances Cuka played a blondie version in the movie version released in 1973.

I suspect the portiral by Marge Simpson had some artistic licence.

It's always bunnies.

Oh yes, I almost forgot about Ms Marge Simspon, LOL. I was actually very happy that show decided to fit a little  Tudor history in there, good for us history lovers. And I loved that little Lisa had Elizabeth I as one of her Idols. And I was happy Anna of Cleves had a relatively large part in the episode. Bravo.
