Sadly, the death of JRM's mother, at the age of only 50, in 2007, is said to have hit him very hard (I remember reading the reports at that time). His father left when he was only 3 years old and responsibility for his upbringing then fell to his mother and his attachment to her was thus very strong. It would seem that since 2007 JRM has found it harder to keep his demons at bay. Let us all hope he can get the help he requires and that his future will bring him both peace and happiness. I just saw this on Entertainment Tonight. I was horrified that he might have died. Why does so much talent frequently go hand-in-hand with inner demons? Is it because they feel things more intensely? A 'source close to JRM' said it wasn't a suicide attempt, but a lapse in sobriety. I hope so. I hope he doesn't truly want to die. He is so immensely talented and I thoroughly enjoyed him in The Tudors. I hope he can find happiness.

I only read about this now!  I sincerely wish it was only a 'lapse in sobriety' and not a proper suicide attempt; either way it sounds like a cry for help.  He's an immensely talented actor who deserves peace and happiness.  I hope he finds it.

I liked him in Gormenghast too; I think that was the first thing I saw him in.
