Well I got series 1-3 for Christmas in a boxset and was looking forward to the special features. What a let down that was!

A few short interviews with actors and the tiniest bit of back stage footage ever! Most of the special features are clips from the epidodes!

Then to top it all off some of the interviews with the actors are terrible. The lady who plays Jane Seymour informs us that Jane was Queen from 1535 to 1537, i'm so glad I learnt that Jane was Queen before Anne had even died, thats some new information for you all…!

Johanathan Rhys Meyers isn't much better, I think he just makes stuff up as he goes along. He 'thinks' Thomas More was one of Henrys teachers.

Natalie Dormer actually seems to have done some reasearch and appeared to know alot about Anne and even admire her, probably why she provides the best performance! James Frain hardly appears, shame because i'd like to see him talk about Cromwell.

Was everyone disappointed?

Totally. The features are pants. Howeve, I wonder if they're saving the best 'till last, and that the season four DVD or complete boxset will have all the goodies on it?

To be fair, that is a theory that has been put forward before. It's doubtful, but yeah, I've read it in a few places.

On the season one DVD, didn't Jeremy Northam display his dodgy grasp on history by claiming Henry VIII suceeded at the age of 12 following the death of his brother, or something like that? But yes, I lol'ed at Annabel Wallis's interview.

I get the feeling that Natalie Dormer actually did research Anne Boleyn a bit more than the other actors researched their characters. I found the video of her looking round the Tower and then seeing Anne's resting place at St Peter ad Vincula really interesting and she obviously found it very moving as there was real emotion in her voice. She came across as an intelligent lady who had very much empathised with the character she played. What a shame that Annabelle Wallis didn't even know when Jane had become Queen, you'd think you'd make sure you knew key details before you were interviewed, bet she's kicking herself now!

Gosh yes Hannah I remember him saying that, now you mention it! Terrible, how they can act as the characters and then not know the facts is very strange!

Yes, I don't understand that either. You'd think you'd do some homework on the character so that you could really get into that character. Saying that, Jeremy Northam was wonderful as Thomas More though wasn't it?

Well I don't know much myself about More but the impression I get is that he was abit of a stuck up idealist, which I think Jeremy got accross quite well

It was quite funny, though. And I thought that despite Northam's obvious lack of background knowledge he did a brilliant job of playing More. Atleast it included the self-flaggelation, hair-shirt wearing and heretic burning More that usually gets air-brushed out of history to fit more comfortably with the \”Saint\” image that More has. For that I really commend Hirst.
