Hi guys,
I wonder if anybody has found a source for a legible French text version of the famous love letters? I can find scanned images online of the letters themselves but these are rather difficult to make out. I can also find English translations which are all well and good but I would ideally like to be able to see legible French text.
Anybody found an online source for this?

Hi James,
I too have looked for them in the original French but, as you say, the only transcripts available online are in English. I also checked the book \”Love Letters of Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn\” to see if it had them in their original form at the back, but it does not. I would love to read them in their original French.

sorry can't help but just wanted to say get yourself to the British Library in London as the famous love letter is on display! I couldn't get a picture as no photos were allowed but it was amazing to be that close!

This really is annoying! Another mystery for us to solve guys and gals. Everywhere states that out of the original 17 letters nine were written in French yet it is impossible to find a transcript in French! I'd love to read them in the original French because I think things do lose something in translation, but like James I have been unable to find them.

The letter is written in both English and French and says:-

French is a beautiful language, although I'm rapidly losing my command of it now I'm learning Spanish – my brain can't cope!

learn from your Argentinean friend, they speak a more classical spanish and have the most beautiful way of speaking Spanish all though some pronunciations are a little different. they have a more colorful way of using the language than the Spanish, in my little experience of them.
If it was not this, then it would be something else?

I speak spanish, however, not castillian…
I've always wanted to learn french.. one day I will eventually get around to it…. I've also been listening to some medieval english podcasts.. it's very interesting..

I did Chaucer at school and the English used in that needs a translation – wonderful!
Yes, Latin American Spanish is very different to Castellano but need to concentrate on Castellano for my daily life, kids are nice and fluent and hubby is good but Im pretty rubbish cos I spend all day writing in English. My French used to be very good as I did it A level at school. Would love to learn Italian one day – beautiful language but all I know is how to ask for a 4 cheese pizza and some wine! Still, I guess I'd do ok in Italy!!

LOL….. I would love to learn castillian… however, it is not spoken here, so it's a bit difficult.

I took Latin, and although I am rusty I love the language. The advantage with a classical language is that it helps with translation of other languages which were based around it. I can decipher some things in French, Italian and Spanish thanks to knowing Latin.
These love letters are amazing – bittersweet, tragic, touching, powerful. They make me sigh, and I am perhaps one of the world's most non romantic people. To read them, and you can just hear the desperate passion in Henry's words. Can you imagine, had he known that millions would one day read his intimate notes?
Paudie with the Olde English I've noticed that sometimes it helps to read it aloud, phonetically? Though not recommended if you are in public. I've done that while reading some things in Letters and Papers. I had a chuckle at the idea of Henry whipping out his Iphone and tapping a note to Anne! Can you imagine courtly love and politics mixed with electronic social networking? Wow!

Just to revive an old topic, anybody found French transcripts anywhere? I would dearly like to read the original French and the various photos just aren't legible enough for me to work out. The English translations seem a little clunky and I would love to know the true words.

No, sorry, I haven't come across the French transcripts. I too would love to read them as I do think that things get lost in translation. Let us know if you you find them and I will post on here if I do.
