Last night I was talking to soemone in a chat room. We were talking about what we would name our kids. The conservation went somewhat like this:
Her: What would you name your daughter?
Me: Either Rhiannon or Anne
Her: Why Anne?
Me: Anne Boleyn
Her: Who's that?
*HEADDESK*
I explained to her that Anne was the second wife of Henry VIII and that she was executed on false charges of adultery and treason. She goes, “That sounds so tragic why would you name your daughter after that?” I replied, “Because Anne was an intelligent, brave, and independent woman.” Her next question was, “How did she get into that mess?” So I gave her the reader's digest condensed version of Anne's story. The only thing she could say was, “That's so tragic!” and, “Poor Anne!” I recommended Eric Ives' book which she said she would consider reading, and gave her the link to this site. We moved to a different subject after that, but I think we may have another Anne fan in the making. She really seemed touch by what little information I gave her.
When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.
