Hey all. Was wondering if anyone could help me. I am trying to make a replica of the black dress Anne wears in her famous portrait, but I cannot fugure out what the red/black decoration is around her neckline. She has the obvious pearls stacked in two's, but what is the other embellishment? They don't look to me like normal cabouchons, like most other dresses.

Hi flickitywitch,

Could the red/black decoration be velvet, with the darker areas being the shadows of the pearls? I bet your dress will be amazing Smile

It definitely seems to be cloth rather than, say, a jewel. I blew up and cropped the neckline of the dress.

I'm not so sure about the dark areas being shadows. It looks like either textured or embroidered pieces in between the pearls. Or perhaps a textured/embroidered ribbon woven through a casing around the neckline, going under the pearls, and showing through the slashing between the pearls. Like a variation on slashed sleeves.

thanks all. part of me wonders if they're some sort of beaded bead???? almost looks like red domes with tiny pearls on them?? i really want this replica to be good, and am at a lose as to what to use to get the same effect.
