I've always wondered if anyone knows if any research has been done on Anne Boleyn's family tree.

A couple of times I've seen the name “Boleyn” and it's always made me wonder if they were related to THE Boleyn family.

I would be interested to know if officially a tree exists or has anyone on here, tried to trace her genealogy back.

I've often wondered about this too. I put in a search on google but from what I could find, it seems that Mary was the last Boleyn, and so any descendants are related through the line of Mary Boleyn's children. I found this on Wikipedia.

'Mary Boleyn is a distant ancestor of many notables including Winston Churchill; John Davison Rockefeller; P. G. Wodehouse;[20][21] Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother; Diana, Princess of Wales; Prince William of Wales; Prince Harry of Wales; Sarah, Duchess of York; Charles Darwin; and Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr. Sally Varlow, the author of the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography entry about Catherine Carey, argues that she was the illegitimate daughter of Mary Boleyn and Henry VIII and therefore both first cousin and half-sister of Queen Elizabeth I.[22]' (wikipedia.com)

On the matter of Anne Boleyn's ancestry, she was related to the Howard family through her mother's side, and she had Irish ancestry from her father's side ( The Butler family), so perhaps it would be worthwhile searching these family trees in order to trace back Anne Boleyn's genealogy. There are some small family trees in most Anne Boleyn books, and also online, however most of these don't go very far back. I'd suggest looking at these first though and then going back from there.

I've done an article looking at Anne's royal blood which traces back through the Howard and Boleyn/Butler sides of her family – see http://www.theanneboleynfiles……lood/5967/

I sometimes have emails from people saying that they are direct descendents of Anne and I always have to point out that this is impossible unless you believe the myths regarding Elizabeth I having illegitimate children. However, Mary Boleyn's son, Henry Carey, had 12 children (although not all of them survived) and her daughter, Catherine, had 15, so there will be many many people who can trace back to Mary.

I *think* I've mentioned this before but….many years ago on a board for RC hobbies some-one posted that he had proof that he was a direct male line descendant of Anne and George Boleyn born in 1538 and hidden so H8 didn't find out AB was having an affair with her brother.

I just wish I had kept a copy …..

It's always bunnies.

This article is really interesting! I always used to get confused when i read about people claiming direct descent from Anne Boleyn! But yes, that makes sense that a lot of people can claim descent from Mary. Didn't Lettice Knollys have quite a few children too?

It makes me laugh when people point out that though Diana, William is a descendant of Mary. WHen he's also a descendant though his father's side of the family too….

It's always bunnies.

Lettice had 5 children with Devereux.  Penelope, Dorothy,Walter, Francis and Robert (Essex)

She had one son with Dudley by the boy died young.

So far I've found that Penelope had 7 children by Robert Rich later Earl of Warwick. They all lived to adulthood and they all married and had children.

She had an affair with Charles Blount, Baron Mountjoy, whom she later married, and had 3 children with him.  Looks like only one of these children married.

Dorothy first married Thomas Perrott 1st Baron of Haroldston.  She had 3 children by him.

Then she married Henry Percy Earl of Northumberland.  She had 4 children with him.

Robert Devereux, Essex married Frances Walsingham.  Had a son Robert.
