What's your favourite fictional book relating to Anne Boleyn?

I loved The Other Boleyn Girl, although not the film, and also The Boleyn Inheritance both by Philippa Gregory. If you treat them as fiction, they're great reads – real page turners – but if sometimes it is hard to forgive the innaccuracies or the poetic licence!

I liked the Other Boleyn Girl and The Boleyn Inheritance… It was hard to read them sometimes because she took A LOT of license to fill in gaps and twist story lines. But they are an easy read, and when I'm taking a break from my other books, I'll read those again..

I think Madamoiselle Boleyn is a really good book. It's about her years in Brussels and in France. Robin Maxwell potrays her as you would think she was as a girl. Maxwell took some license with the gaps and what if's, but it's a good book. I haven't read the Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn, but it's on my amazon wishlist.. LOL

I too loved Mdme. Boleyn, I think the author did a fabulous job of 'filling' in the gaps in Anne's early life story.  Loved the descriptions of the court of France and of Leonardo DaVinci..wouldn't have been fitting if Anne really had met him and shared ideas and beliefs with the Master?  I thought including DaVinci's personality in this book was brilliant.

Threads by Nell Gavin <33 – its a truly amazing novel & explores soo many sides of anne's personality; not to mention that the whole idea of 'anne reincarnated' is brilliant & this book is simply very fascinating-i definitely encourage any anne fan to read it!

mademoiselle boleyn by robin maxwell- the fictional friendship between anne & da vinci was especially fascinating

the lady in the tower by jean plaidy- another amazing book

My favourite Anne fiction book would have to be:

Dear Heart, How like You This? by Wendy J. Dunne.

I also enjoyed Lady in the Tower by Jean Plaidy.

I know they are popular with others, but I really can't stand Phillipa Gregory's Tudor books.  She plays too fast and loose with history for me.   I know that is how she chose to write the characters to serve the purpose of her novel.  However, it leaves a REALLY bad taste in my mouth.

I also don't care for books where Anne is portrayed as what is known as a Mary Sue- too perfect, good, wonderful, beautiful nor do I like her portrayed as wicked and evil.  Bearing that in mind, I also do not like to see Catherine of Aragon and Mary I portrayed that way either.  I like to see a balance.

All Best,

Mary Louisa

I really liked the Anne Boleyn in Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall, even though most seem to think Anne came off badly in it. Other than that, I haven't really read much historical fiction, tbh.

I love Robin Maxwell's books on her, and “The Lady in the Tower” by Jean Plaidy.  Despite her huge liberties with the facts and tendency to ramble on a little too much, I enjoy Philippa Gregory's books, too.  She is a talented writer with, obviously, a vivid imagination.

I love the Boleyn Inheritance!

My favourite Anne Boleyn book so far is Brief Gaudy Hour, I though it was brilliant. I want to read it again but I lent it to someone and I suppose I should continue reading Eric Ives rather than read fiction all the time!

This isn't anything published, it's fan fiction. I have been reading it and I really really like it. It's a what-if Anne hadn't miscarried the last time on The Tudors (I know some people don't like it because it can be historically accurate, but since this fiction completely rewrites history, I guess it's ok!) Definitely a good read, especially for those of us who wished Anne and Henry had stayed together in love! Also, while you're checking this one out, look at some of the author's other works. ReganX is a fantastic writer, in my opinion 🙂

Thanks Christen Smile  I followed your link and really enjoyed the story.  Maybe Anne will have a happy ending after all, if only in our imaginations!

No problem Hannah 🙂 I'm addicted to that story and have been waiting impatiently since Valentine's Day for an update!
