I’ve recently been doing amateur research on the Barnett Family Line and have discovered what I believe to be a direct line back to the Boleyn Family. My Wife and I are both descendants of the Barnett Family here in the USA and have connections through the families of: Claibourne, Webb, West, Fox, Percy, Neville, Carey, Howard, and so forth.
I find this site and the many posts here of great interest and look forward to reading most of what is posted in the coming months. I’m 70 years old, retired, and enjoy history, but have only a few more years to do this research, so I gotta get goin’! Thanks everyone, especially Claire, for this wonderful, free site. Now that is very interesting Barnett, as my family have connections to the Webb family too. Captain Matthew Webb who was the first bloke to swim the Channel in 1875 is my great great Uncle or something like that. His brother Thomas was I believe involved somewhere along the line with Webb’s circus. I can remember as a kid my dad always saying that one of an Uncle Thomas who worked in a circus and had a pet polar bear which he used to let swim in the Thames.

Boleyn,
How KOOL is that to have someone working in a circus with a polar bear! Thanks for your reply. I know this site is for books/films, etc. about the Boleyns, but my interest is trying to find out more about my connections to that family as well as to other members of the various royal families.
PREFACE: You might want to disregard the following, but thought you might like to follow up on the Webb family and it’s connection to the Boleyns.
Until later…….Larry (Barnettbuff)

Lucy Webb married Nathan Barnett, Sr, in 1757 at New Kent County, Va. She was dau. to John D. Webb and Martha “Peggy” Claiborne.
Martha’s f. was Capt. Thomas Claiborne, Jr of New Kent, Va and m. Ann Fox.
Ann Fox’s f. Henry Fox b. c. 1662 London, and m. Ann West, b. New Kent, Va
Ann West’s f. Col John West, Jr of York, Va. and m. Ursula Croshaw.
John West, Jr. f. was John West, Sr, 3rd Baron of Del a Warre of Wiltshire, England, and m. Ann de Percy of Charles City, Va.
John West, Sr was son of Sir Thomas West 2nd Baron del a Warr and Anne Knollys.
Anne Knollys was dau. of Sir Francis Knollys, Knight of the Garter, and Mary Catherine Carey, and of course;
Catherine was the daughter of Mary Boleyn and Sir William Carey (OR King Henry VIII)

Thank you for that information. Again another bit of my family History is that I do have a cousin or something from my mum’s side who emergrated to America back in the early 1900 her maiden name being Capsey I don’t know her married name, and of course my great grandfather was well known in America as he was one of the founder members of the boot and shoe trade.
This site is a real mix of subjects really, in short it’s a place where like minded intelligent people can share views and have a chat, and as I said it is also a place to have a laugh and share our troubles. I’m not sure but I think you are our eldest member so far and that’s brilliant there aren’t many elderly people who are that computer literate. New technology tends to scare most elderly people. So good on you for keeping up with new technology. Feel free to pop in and out of our home and share a thought or 2 it doesn’t matter if it is Tudor or History related or not we are a freindly bunch of scallywags, and only too happy to chat.
You will learn a lot from this site, and make many freinds. I joined this site in Jan this year and I’ve made a lot of freinds here I love each and everyone of them for who and what they are, and feel like I’ve known them all my life.
Feel free to ask any questions, one of us is bound to be able to answer it, and any views, thoughts or feelings you wish to share will be gratefully recieved.

Here is some where to start looking…
http://www.genealogymagazine.c…..oleyn.html
It is said and written about so often on Tudor related sites (including here) that Direct descendants of Mary Carey (Boleyn) include Winston Churchill and Princess Diana. If the widely held belief that Henry did in fact father the Carey children is true, this would mean that a descendant of Henry’s is second next in line to the throne?

If it was not this, then it would be something else?

IIRC, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was also a descendant of Catherine Carey meaning that her blood-line is already on the throne….

I didn’t know which Forum to put this in so…… I put it in my Intro.
I just read a short description of Henry VIII, written by Suzannah Dunn in “The Queen of Subtleties”, in which Ms Dunn put into the mouth of Anne, as she is writting to Elizabeth. Describing Henry, Anne says, “He paid his own visits to you, (Elizabeth) of course, amid a lot of show. Above all, HE IS GOOD AT SHOW.” (Emp. mine)

That just struck me as being such a short, yet precise, description of Henry. Today I guess we would call it show-boating. From what I have read about him, I can close my eyes and almost see him in his many acts of posturing. Cool

Henry was the king of show….If you look at his exploits when he was married to KoA. The Aged Knights, Robin Hood and all the masques and devisings which were part and parcel of his court.

How much was a demonstration of his power and influence and how much was Henry wanting acceptance as a person is debatable.

His attempt at being the Young Gallant back-fired bigtime when he paid an unscheduled visit to Anne of Cleves, She didn’t understand the whole game and Henry was left looking foolish when she didn’t fall into his arms when he approached her in disguise at Rochester.

The whole idea of the Royal Progress was to be seen by as many people as possible while allowing the palaces to be freshened for the winter season.

It's always bunnies.

After viewing this site, can anyone verify if this is TRUE or not?

Well I haven’t read an article on his dictionary before Larry. I’m surprised there’s an article from 2006 on that site, she wrote the book before 2001 and most of her theories are pretty lame quite frankly. The “full” biographies on Mary Boleyn were not published until later, the interest in her obviously stemmed from Philippa’s novel.
I recently read David Loade’s The Boleyns who seems to have mainly used Ives as a source when it came to Mary Boleyn, Loades stated Henry Carey was born first. I don’t think that’s correct, and that article argues the case fairly well. Ives, in any case, had no reason to research Mary extensively. If Catherine’s birthdate was after 1527 it would have made her too young to get married and give birth a year later, to attend court etc etc. In most cases thirteen would be too young to consummate a marriage, yes it did happen, but very rarely among the upper-classes.
Mary’s affair with Henry is said to have lasted three to five years, between 1520 and 1525. I am quite sure Catherine is his, I’m not so sure about Henry.

But in any case I suggest you read Alison Weir’s book on Mary Boleyn which gives some more evidence on the likelihood that Catherine is Henry’s child. The cheaper paperback version should be out this year and it really is the most comprehensive book around on Mary, if any book on her could be that as there is so little known about her. Wilkinson’s book on Mary is a bit romanticised for my liking, and a I found it a little dated.
