Has anyone seen either of the new plays of Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies which have just opened at Stratford on Avon yet? I am really interested to know how Lydia Leonard portrays Anne Boleyn.

The Boleyns burdened by a feckless brother? Needless to say I would rather poke my own eyes out with knitting needles than go to see this trash. And why do they have to put a picture of Mantel in the middle of this review? Don’t they know small children may be looking.

Forgive me.
In my defense, which is a poor one, I was trying to be nice to a new person.
I knew if you were out there, Louise, we would soon here from you. It has been a while. HI!
I am slinking off to my corner now!

Leanda de Lisle has written an excellent review of these plays, which is worth a read. You can read it on her faceache page.
She says that they play up the supposed reason for the breakdown of Anne’s relationship with Cromwell i.e. that it was due to Anne being angry that good old Cromwell was trying to prevent her being cruel to the Princess Mary. Mmmmm!

Oh I thought there was going to be three books in her Cromwell-fan-girl series.

I wonder if Margaret is going to have a Christmas room she locks people up in.

Don’t tell me she’s going to dress up as the fairy of Christmas Joy and go and beat the C*** out of everyone with her magic wand?
Or perhaps take Ebenezzer Scrooge at his words and pass a law stating “Every fool who goes about with Merry Christmas on his lips, should be boiled in his own pudding, and buried with a sprig of holly in his heart.”
Bicycles Anyanka? no got to keep it in context penny farthings at the very least..
I think Mental is the right word when it comes to describing H.Mantel.

That should be good for a laugh, then Louise. H Mental strikes again hey.
M.T could end up marrying Lardarse, you know, and the suffocate the fat lump now that would be good. LOL just had a thought, Can you remember a satire type programme called Spitting Image from the 80’s? Just got a picture in my head of M.T rubber imagine, and H8 mitchelin type rubber imagine discussing politics in bed, H8 doesn’t like what she’s saying and moans about it, so she suffocates him by ramming a pillow down his throat.

While I may have been alive during Thatcher’s ministership, I feel being a kid in Australia means I don’t know everything about her era. So could someone explain this Christmas joke to me? As it wasn’t mentioned in The Iron Loady

Laugh

That’s from Bring up the Bollocks Bill. I have always thought you could get a few Blackadder episodes from BUTB.

I should apologise to Millicent, I am afraid I usually have nothing but sarcastic remarks for Ms. Mantel. There are quite a few reviews up of the play if you search on Google.
Maybe Digital Theatre will get it, which I have just discovered. I’ve been having theatre marathons in my household.

I can just see Cromwell in the role of nursey to Henry VIII. All he’d need would be a pair of false udders (real name Bernard)! Lot’s of potential casualties for the role of Baldrick. Take your pick from Thomas More through to Mark Smeaton.
