Just wondering if people thought she played Anne well?
I know the programme is dramatised and some things are incorrect etc etc. But personally I thought she played Anne great, I found myself falling in love with her nevermind Henry! I think the fact she is not an obvious beauty as Anne made her more enchanting as you fell in love with her character, I mean don't get me wrong. I dont thing Natalie Dormer is ugly or anything! But it wasn't her looks you fell in love with atall.
I love watching all the episodes with her in, I miss her not been in it. I think she portrayed her perfectly so just wondering if people felt the same way?
You're so right, Gemma. Although Natalie has not got the dark eyes and sallow complexion that Anne is described as having, I thought she was brilliant. Her Anne Boleyn was feisty, intelligent, stubborn, seductive and yet vulnerable – much better than Natalie Portman in The Other Boleyn Girl. You all know that I absolutely love her performance in the execution scene – the way she gives that speech – but she was also compelling when she begs Henry with Elizabeth in her arms and scenes like when she's in the Tower and sees her brother get executed. She really stole the show!

Hands down, I think Natalie Dormer brought Anne to life like no other actress. Her performance just blew me away. In season 1 she was good, but in season 2 – I was just floored. Jonathan Rhys Meyers gets most of the attention, and the award nominations, but honestly I think Natalie out-acted him in S2. She RULED the show. There were so many scenes I loved, even the little ones: when she, slightly drunk, confesses to her brother her fear of Mary being reinstated; how she would vary between giddy and snarky; her poise and the use of her eyes! They may have been blue, but Natalie used her eyes just as Anne was described to do. In an interview I saw, ND explained that she was trying to capture the human side of Anne Boleyn, rather than her just being an angel or a devil. Much like our recent discussions here. That impressed me, because that is how I think of Anne. I appreciate so much that Natalie read multiple biographies and desperately wanted the chance to play Anne. She said she loves history almost as much as acting. She took Anne Boleyn and gave her a moderized twist, but still captured all those characteristics that make her so enthralling.
The show (and Henry) is just not the same without her!

It was obvious from the video I put on the http://www.theanneboleynfiles……oleyn/843/ post that Natalie took her role seriously and had a real “connection” with Anne Boleyn. She got very emotional seeing Anne's resting place. Brilliant actress!

I agree. Natalie Dormer was simply amazing as Anne Boleyn. as claire said, she may not have had the dark eyes & complexion attributed to anne, but she nonetheless did an amazing job. natalie's passion & interest in anne definitely shows through her performance. i felt that everything from anne's wit, to elizabeth, to holding off the king, to the execution scene, to simple moments where anne would hold the king's gaze in a way no other woman could, natalie did a truly wonderful job
i greatly miss her on the show! =\\

Natalie played the part of ms. boleyn extremely well. she captured the fire, wit and charm that was Anne Boleyn and gave her a modern vibe, making her a sex symbol of the 21st century, though maybe she wasnt so \”sex kittenish\” as ms cynthia put it but this new take on her makes Anne interesting to a whole new generation, and heck she did way better than Natalie portman in the other boleyn girl!! Cant mention the tudors without mentioning my annoyance with Henry's charactor…showtime totally missed the mark with him!!

Perhaps Natalie's \”sex kittenish\” was right though because Anne Boleyn was meant to have an allure about her, rather than being attractive or pretty in the classic way. There was definitely something about Anne Boleyn and Lancelot de Carles said of her:-
“…eyes always most attractive which she knew well how to use with effect. Sometimes leaving them at rest and at others, sending a message to carry the secret witness of the heart. And, truth to tell, such was their power that many surrendered to their obedience”
It's hard to know what Anne was really like but I think Natalie did a good job of playing her.

I love Natalie as Anne. It took me awhile to get past her blue eyes, but once I did that, I fell in love with her characterization of Anne. One of the best. Natalie was sexy, intelligent, and fiesty as Anne; all the things I believe Anne to be.

I think Natalie was fantastic as Anne. Her and Genevieve are definitely my favourites.
Although it has crossed my mind that Natalie had a lot more material work with than what Genevieve did. Natalie had two seasons worth of TV, whereas Genevieve only had a couple of hours, meaning that Natalie had a lot more time to grow into her character and really make Anne her own.

Natalie Dormer definitely won me over and I feel her interpretation of Anne was very passionate, sensitive, and dynamic. I think she worked very hard to offer a solid portrayal of what we understand Anne Boleyn may have been like.
I admit, though, I had a very difficult time getting around her obvious beauty since Anne is always reputed as not being exceptionally attractive, and the blue eyes REALLY cost credibility IMHO because Anne is so frequently noted for her fascinating, expressive dark eyes.
Natalie Dormer is my favourite Anne Boleyn as I like that she portrays the many sides of Anne and the complexity of her character and story without losing believability. I thought it was interesting how in the beginning of the first series she was fiery but still quite sweet and youthful in some ways-I thought it gave an impression of a younger Anne Boleyn, just returned from France; something which we don't really see in other dramatisations. Her portrayal also shown Anne's famous temper but it was easy to empathise with her as you could see the pressure of the situation she was in taking it's toll on her and her genuine hurt when Henry takes a mistress.
Also Natalie Dormer looks the closest to how I imagine Anne Boleyn, I know I'm probably on my own here, but I often imagine Anne to have very dark sapphire blue eyes, no idea why!
Natalie was amazing as Anne. The chemistry between her and JRM was so believable and perfect. I cryed so much at Anne's execution scene and the part where she says the Kings testing her and maybe he'll send her to a nunnery, no one could've showed the emotions better. The only thing that kind of bothers me is the whole appearence thing. Natalie had light ( and beautiful don't get me wrong) eyes and her skin was fairly light. Maybe if they had gotten her dark brown contacts it would've been great. Nonetheless Natalie was great and made my admiration for Anne Boleyn grow greater. Natalie portman is one of my favorite actresses but Dormer out shined her as Anne.

Natalie Dormer is amazing as Anne- I watched the interviews with cast from The Tudors and Mr Rys-Myers seemed very taken with her as well!
I wish the hint of French was there in her accent, but this is not the fault of Natalie at all, just as Henry still being attractive and dashing in his fifties was not the fault of Rys-Myers!

Yes no fault of JRMeyers. But who knows…maybe he'll actually look like that in his fifties.

With the well-publicized problems JRM has had with alcohol and rumors of other substances, I'd just be happy to see him get to his fifties! Why do the really talented ones have self-destructive tendencies?
