As I have mentioned I am a student and The Tudors are the subject of my Master's thesis. I am mommy first and foremost, but I am also an author and a student. So when I am not doing mommy things I am studying or working on my next book (or series I should say which is The Tudor Dynasty). At any rate there are Tudor books, pictures and notes EVERYWHERE! My 6 year old son, Noah can named all 6 of Henry's Queens. My daughter, Abigail who is 2, can recognize any and all portraits of Anne Boleyn on sight. As well as Henry VIII. My husband's brother is getting married this weekend. This is background you need for the story of why I do not care for my future sister-in-law….

This summer we were at a family party and I was talking to our eldest nephew who is a senior in law school. He adores Abigail and spends a lot of time with her at get-togethers and on family vacations. Now I ALWAYS carry a small Tudor book in my purse (ya never know when I might have a spare minute…yes I am obsessed). Anyway I said to my nephew “Do you want to see something really cool?” and I pull out the Tudor book, I flip it open to a portrait of Anne Boleyn and I say to Abby “Who is this?” She smiles and says “Anne Bowin!” (That's how it sounds when she says it). He laughs and was like “That's awesome!” Well my soon to be sister-in-law looks at me askance and says “Really? Your daughter knows who Anne Boleyn is?” As if we were talking about Jack the Ripper! So I gave her a scathing look and I said “Yes! I am studying the Tudors for my Masters as well as my next book. However I have not show her footage of execution re-enactments if that's what you mean. I don't tell her bedtime stories of ACCUSATIONS of adultery, incest, witchcraft and treason. But she does know that Anne Boleyn was a QUEEN of England!” She just blinked at me and said “Oh. Well that makes sense then.” My nephew, who will be her step-son, and I just looked at each other like What A Dolt! Yeah….I don't like her.

“Anne Bowin!”  LOL – your daughter sounds very history literate!  I had to wait till I was 10 to find out who Anne Boleyn was!

Try and see your soon to be SIL as a challenge; someone who's really just begging to be converted to all things Anne. Or if she really won't budge, annoy her by giving her Anne-themed presents every Christmas! Laugh Laugh Laugh

Ooh yes I agree, Bella44! I have converted most of my family-although for some reason my mom stubbornly remains averse to Anne Boleyn because she likes Catherine of Aragon so much!!

Awww 'Anne Bowin' that's soooo cute!

Ah yes, I can see exactly what you mean! that makes it sound as if you were allowing your daughter to know something unsuitable, when in fact you are just educating her. A lot of people (including myself) would be very impressed that your daughter knew who Anne Boleyn was Smile

Anne Boleyn gifts! I love it! Unfortunately I shall have to buy something I already have or it would kill me to actually give it to her and not keep it for myself! Haha! Seriously…it would.

^ I’d be exactly the same LOL!  You could always bake her some cookies iced with ‘H&A’ for Henry and Anne.  As it could be read as 'ha ha' (as some wags pointed out at the time!) it could be quite amusing.

Hmm, now I have a mental picture of Nelson from The Simpsons pointing and going ‘Ha Ha!’  Laugh

You poor thing! It's horrible when you have to suffer an ignorant! Hmmm. Is she completely detestable, or is it just her perception of Anne which is unpleasant?

I think, what occurred that day was more than a judgement of Anne, it was also a judgement of me as a mother. Does that make sense? I take motherhood VERY seriously. It is the best and most important thing I have ever done. While Tudors are my passion…my children are my life! I one fell swoop she attacked both with her ignorance. A lack of education in this area on her part does not mean a lack of proper parenting on my part. Which is what her reaction suggested. Thus, I now view her with disdain. You can change your mind and go from disliking a person to liking them, but contempt can rarely be undone.

It is difficult isn't it? She just sounds like an idiot. Im a bit cheeky when confronted with a dolt. I have to work with one who is also a control freak- last week saw me hiding all of the yellow highlighters and replacing them with different coloured ones (she only uses yellow). Knowing she would need to use the paperclips after I went home, I joined them all up and put them back in their compartment. I like to visualize her face as she drew out one long strand of adjoining paperclips. Hehehe. It gives me a chuckle whilst evaporating the tension!

Do you have to spend a lot of time with her? It seems to me that she is very intimidated by you, this explains her attack on Anne and your parenting- yes, what a terrible mother; teaching your children such interesting topics! Sadly (and I wish it was'nt the case for you) I think every time you see her there will be some jibe from her… You must keep us informed, we shall all do our best to thwart her!Wink

Hee. There was a unit secretary at the hospital who was wrapped a little too tightly. We would leave a single piece of popcorn on the floor under her desk because we knew it would make her nuts. We also glued a quarter to the floor to watch her try to pick it up. And she would throw away any stick pen that didn't have a cap on it, so we removed all the caps from the pens in her desk and also in the box of replacement pens!

I have been studying my Family History and read that Lord Berkeley married Anne Savage, daughter of Sir John Savage of Frodsham, Cheshire, who had borne the train of Anne Boleyn, on her marraige to Henry VIII. Confused
