I really like the “Irish Anne”, too. By the way, do the rest of you have to hit 'quote and reply' to see pictures and links in other people's posts, or is it just me? I haven't been able to see any since the site overhaul.

It's the same with me, Carolyn, if the site lets me see the links at all. I like certain aspects of the “Irish Anne” better than the NG portrait, because I think Irish Anne looks less sallow and a bit prettier.

I like “Irish Anne” but the Hever Castle portrait is my opinion on the closest resemblance to Anne. The colouring seems bang on, but there are elements of the NPG and the “Irish Anne” which I believe could be close to her real appearance. but I guess we will never know how she actually looked unless a time machine is created! I'd love to go back to that time period and see Anne, just for a few minutes. I'd make sure I took my camera too! Wink

Carolyn, same problem with me too.  My favorite is the Hever portrait.  I can't seem to get to the web page wher the Irish picture is posted.  Will try again later.

Try hitting 'quote and reply' on BoleynFan's post, then when the reply box comes up, hit 'preview' to be able to click on the link. Hope that helps!

ETA: I uploaded a copy of it to PhotoBucket, and will send the link to it to Bella and Sharon.

Yay, it worked – thanks Impish!!!!

I think I prefer the NPG portrait, but I have to say the colours seem somehow fresher on this one and they're both 16th century, aren't they?  Maybe this Anne was kept locked away in a cupboard, away from the light, for the past few hundred years.  I'd love to know how the gallery acquired it and where it was originally.

Thanks Carolyn.  That worked.  The Irish painting is beautiful.  Anne's eyes sparkle in this one and her personality shines through.  I agree with Bella, this painting seems brighter.

Anne, I love the paintings you posted on the previous page.  She does look younger in them.  Especially in the second one.  I see the girl Henry fell in love with. Quite lovely.

Thanks, Bella 🙂 And I also agree, Bella and Sharon, that Anne seems brighter, as does her personality. This is the reason that, for me, “Irish Anne” can contest with NPG Anne, though I too like the Irish one less. Still…it's a close call…

I'm so pleased to see those links. It's hard to decide which  version I'd call the essential Anne though.

It's always bunnies.

I too would love to see what Irish Anne's story is–maybe I could contact Ireland's NPG. I suppose I prefer the NPG portrait to the one at Hever though, for some reason.

I went to the national portrait gallery last weekend and they have put the Anne Boleyn portrait back up. I was so upset to see that the cracking in the paint that they reported (and are trying to raise enough money to mend) is so obvious Cry. It runs vertically all the way from the top to the bottom going straight through her nose. This is such a shame and I really hope that it can be saved. It's an amazing portrait![Image Can Not Be Found]
