http://womenshistory.about.com…..raving.htm
please let me know if it works. I found another “portrait” or engraving of what’s supposed to be Anne Boleyn.
Thoughts?….

• Grumble all you like, this is how it’s going to be.

Hmmm. The costume looks all wrong for Anne’s time if you ask me.

I have seen that in one of my books before Mya, and it doesn’t ring true to me. It’s the eyes. Nothing like what i think Anne’s should look like going from the other portraits

I’m pretty certain that it’s Amelia, Anne of Cleves’ sister, hence the ‘germanic’ costume. Looks like an engraving based on the drawing by Holbein.
It’s absolutely NOT Anne Boleyn!!! Some sites really need to do their homework Laugh

Totally agree with Bella on this one. It’s not Anne.. The face is all wrong Anne’s face is more oval and thinner.
This face is more eliptical and flatter than Anne’s. The nose is also a lot broader. I also agree with Bella when she says she feels it’s Amelia, AOC sister. The eyes are very similar in appearence to the accepted portrait of AOC.
Holbien was originally comissioned to paint both Anne and Amelia, but whether Henry got to see Amelia’s portrait as well as Anne’s before being railroaded into taking Anne as his wife I don’t know..Neither Amelia or Anne can be called beautiful, in the conventual sence but they are pleasing to look at.

Just done a bit more research on the picture and it’s generally agreed it’s either AOC or her sister Amelia. The original Holbein drawing is not named but a later engraving of the drawing is labeled as Anne of Cleves. Amelia’s (or Amalia) wikipedia page has the drawing as being her but Elizabeth Norton has the picture labeled as Anne in her book on AOC. I personally believe it’s Amelia. She was the youngest of the Cleves sisters (born 1517), never married but did write her own song book, which still survives. She died in 1586.

How the drawing ever came to be thought of as AB, I don’t know…

I’ve seen this picture before, I always thought it was Anne of Cleves…I’ve obviously been getting muddled up with her sister all this time
