December 4: John Russell

One of my favourite sketches by Hans Holbein the Younger is this one of John Russell, 1st Earl of Bedford, Lord High Admiral and Lord Privy Seal. It's done in chalk and the detail is amazing. Bedford lost the use of his right eye from an arrow wound sustained in 1522 in the Siege of Morlaix and you can see something wrong with that eye in the sketch. It's so detailed, isn't it?
