December 2: Charles de Solier, comte de Morette
Yesterday, I shared a beautiful painting rich in symbolism by Hans Holbein the Younger, who is famous for his paintings of members of the Tudor court. Today, I want to share another Holbein painting, and it's of another French diplomat, a man called Charles de Solier, comte de Morette, who acted as an ambassador to England between 1526 and 1535. I'm sharing it because it always amazes me, it's like a photograph, don't you think? Just look at the veins on the back of the hand! Wow! Holbein really was a genius!
