December 19: Marchpane

Thank you so much to Cassidy Cash of That Shakespeare Life podcast for sharing this recipe with us today. Marchpane is a lovely Christmas treat, so why not make some?

"Good thou, save me a piece of marchpane." (First Servant, Romeo and Juliet Act I Scene 5)

Ingredients

  • 350 g (1.75 cups) Ground Almond Flour
  • 175 g (3/4 c) Granulated Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Rose Water
  • Jordan Almonds or Candied Fruit for Garnish

Method

Combine ground almonds and sugar, stir.

Add rose water one spoonful at a time, stirring in between.

Stir the almonds until you have a paste like consistency.

Form the marchpane into shapes. I made button balls.

Bake 180 degrees, 10-15 minutes.

Garnish and enjoy.
