I have read several accounts of fact that the King didnt attend funerals of his spouses and I know that the Duke of Suffolk didn’t attend Princess Mary’s and there was another High up Noble that didn’t. I am writing a novel and was wondering if this applied to lower nobles in my case son of baron when his wife dies?
What do people think? Was it generally that people didn’t go to funerals of spouses in Tudor times. I have looked all over the net and cannot find anything to answer the question either way.
times or that just applied to royalty?

It was my understanding that the king/queen, did not attend funerals. They had chief mourners who were appointed. Royalty had chief mourners. I doubt that Barons would. More than likely they would attend the funeral of a spouse. I have been looking, and all I could find were the chief mourners at the funerals of royalty. Not much help, but I think you can safely have your Baron attend his wife’s funeral.

I *think* the lower classes went to the funeral of a spouse..However I’m not sure but if not a funeral then a Mass of remembrance for him/her..Like Sharon, I feel your character would be present..
Regarding Henry..here were only 2 possible spouse’s funeral he possibly could have attended..KoA and JS. Since both AB and KH were executed and AoC was still alive.
Henry did not attend either. For Katherine’s funeral he was represented by his niece, Lady Eleanor Brandon, for Jane’s his daughter Mary. Given Henry’s notable fear of disease, it’s not surprising he removed himself after Jane’s death..
It does seem that recent royal funerals had the spouse attend, though in these cases the chief mourner was the new king/queen rather than the wife..
It's always bunnies.

Thanks for that I was pretty much thinking he would, but all i kept digging up as this King/Queen or that Duke didnt attended the funeral, so I was thinking maybe it went down ranking ladder
