When my Cheyenne died, I thought I would not want another dog because it would be hard to find one who could fill his paws, and we had him with us for 13 years. The house was so quiet, I couldn’t stand it. We got rid of all of his stuff. I would walk in the house and tears would come to my eyes because he wasn’t there to greet me. Broke my heart. I lasted four months and that was long enough. That time was filled with tears. Shelley didn’t take Cheyenne’s place, she is nothing like him, but she fills this house with her love. Different people handle the loss in different ways. I knew another dog would never be like my Cheyenne, but there is nothing like a pet’s love. Shelley filled an empty space in my heart.
Anyanka, take your time, and when you are ready there will be a cat who is waiting for you to come along and make it a part of your family.
Shelley has to go for surgery on Monday for a lump near one of her teats. They don’t think it’s cancerous, which is good, but I’m still worried for her. She’s 8 yrs old. The doctor expected to see a slow moving old dog. Shelley is as playful as she was the first day we brought her home. Doc says that’s in her favor. So fingers crossed.

Thank you Janet.
Shelley is home. Everything went fine. Bloodwork looked good. She was still under the influence when we picked her up. Anybody ever seen a slightly high St. Bernard? She was pretty funny. We tried to keep her down. She was a touch wobbly on her feet. She didn’t want to stay down, so she stood up and stared at the floor. She kept trying to move but that was a no go. She kept looking behind her at her back legs, then she would snort and rock back and forth. After about an hour of this, she finally gave up and layed down. It was very strange. Today she is sleeping like a baby. All is well.

Sharon,
I am glad everything went fine with Shelly, and that she is feeling much better. Sorry for the lateness of my reply. I’ve been a bit out of touch. I’ve always loved St. Bernard’s! They are a truly beautiful dog.
I also understand about losing a pet, and getting a new one, even though I swore it would never happen. I lost my Yorkie, Mindy on 2010 (she was 17.5 years old). I was devestated, even though I knew it was coming. I swore no more dogs. Yeah right. I found my puppy, Millie at the local shelter, and it was love at first sight. Millie has not taken Mindy’s place, but she has filled my life with as much joy and love.
I am way too attached to dogs. I see that now after re-reading this post. It makes me seem like such a sap!

Not at all Duchess far from it. It just shows that you are a loving and caring person. Animals give so much love to people and all they ask is to be fed and looked after. Our animals are terribly spoilt and I think they understand that I love them.As for getting attached to them well again it’s all part and package of the complicated word love. Animals in a lot of ways choose their owners so I can completely understand what you mean about Milly.
It was the same with Puffy, (My puffer fish) he/she just swam over to me and that was it. he/she came home with us. Animals have a built in 6th sence and they know instantly the right person for them.

Thanks Duchess. Nice to see you. 17.5 years. Wow! You were so lucky to have her for that long. I understand about Millie too. I found Shelley on the internet. She was a rescue dog. Fell in love with her picture and called the guy who had her. When we went to see her, he opened the door to let her out and she ran right up to me. That was it. We took her home that day. You are not alone in your attachment to dogs. I am such a sucker when it comes to animals.

just the one cat now, a seal point siamese called shen! he’s 8 on october 31 (spooky!!!!!!)
our eldest cat which has been with us in 3 houses and since i was 3 passed away in the summer of last year, i swear i can still hear her dropping to the floor off a bed sometimes, or clinking her collar against the bowl.:’)
I have the cutest little dog called Alfie. He’s 6months old and he’s a cross between a Bischon Freese and Yorkshire Terrier….completely different or what. He’s adorable but a little scamp as well, he knows he’s cute and so acts very naughty because he knows his cuteness will get him out of it. Oh also due to the obsession of my 7year old brother we have two fish named John Ceno and Ray Mysterio…hmm enough said.
Woohoo I'm normal...gotta go tell the cat!

We have a dog named Duchess. She is a puggle. My cousin gave her to us a little more than a year ago because she had to get rid of her. She has been a joy to our lives ever since. She’s the sweetest little thing and pretty much my best friend.
