We have just been out for a stroll to the park as usual and he was attacked by Staffie type dog. The woman with it was ‘busy on the phone’ as she put it when she finally came across. I have never in my life kicked a dog but I kicked that horrible Staffie. I lifte Douglas up onto a [picnic table out of the way but not before he got bitten. Douglas has a couple of punctures on his head and near his eye and we have to go to the vet – appt at 1400 – I so upset and shocked by the whole thing. Poor Douglas he is very subdued but safe now. Why can’t people keep their dogs under control? Even more important why can’t they do something when their crazy animals go mad like that. Luckily other people in the park came to my aid, you should have heard the barking in the park!!! Dogs going mad and people shouting at this ‘whatever’ sort of female. I am sure Douglas will be okay probably some anti biotics are called for but I think he will be okay.

Oh Maggie I’m so sorry for you. It is a case of poor wee Douglas indeed..
I think I would have done a lot more than kick the bloody dog I would have clouted the owner of it too.
This is happening far to frequently lately. Although Douglas has been hurt I hate to think what would have happened if this had been a child..
A few months back my sister got bitten on her leg it was bad too she had to have several stitches and a few rabies shots too. Her crime? walking past the house with her husband in his wheelchair and the only way she could get it to let go was to belt it one with the loaf of frozen bread she was carrying.
The dog owner said that it was sister’s fault and refused to except responsibilty saying that someone must have left the gate open.
She reported it but the Police couldn’t do anything, despite the fact that the dog was known for violent behaviour. It was only after it bit a child in the face that the Authorties acted and the dog was destroyed. However the owner took the RSPCA to court claiming they had unlawfully acted in destroying the dog, The case was laughed out of court and the owner was banned from keeping any type of animal for life.

Give Douglas a pat and a biscuit from me, I’m sure once he gets over the shock of it all he’ll be his usual emboilent self. He knows his mummy loves him..

Thanks Bo. We have seen the vet and got some anti biotics, he has a check up on Monday to make sure all is okay. He seems fine now though around his eye looks sore bless him. He knows what ‘poorly wee doggie’ means and so has been playing me like a fiddle as far as biscuits are concerned and is lying now on a cushion in the bay window ledge beside me as I type. Big liquid eyes and lots of sighs and weakly thumping tail. Bless him I am glad it was not worse only a tiny bit over and one of those teeth would have caught his actual eye. It makes me ever more worried about going out. I don’t leave the house much except for shopping and walking D. I can see me soon being a complete hermit at this rate.
I didnt even realise I had got nipped in the fray though I feel it now and have a bruise the size of coaster on my hand going under onto the palm and over the back. No skin bloken but I can clearly see three dents showing in the bruise. I am just glad I didnt end up bleeding or I would have lost it totally………….
We are all calm once more at chez Maggie and are going to share some nice scottish recipe sausage later, I having mine with croquettes and peas, Douglas having some Butchers Choice and mixer biscuits with his slice. Life is alright again.

We don’t go out much either. We really only go out for shopping or appointments apart from that no one ever sees us, as we keep ourselves very much to ourselves.. We don’t have pets that need walking and the pets we do have exercise themselves, only needing a water change, feeding and cleaning out every so often…2 Fish Tanks and 5 White Chipmunks (little squirrels).
I hope Douglas will be ok, and that you will both get over the shock of this soon..

We have a very nice dog park not far from us but I don’t take my guys there any more. The owners all stand together chatting and no one is watching their dog. I saw scuffles between dogs a couple of times and then the very last time I went my dog was bitten. (I have Great Danes and one was attacked by a little dog who must have had a Napoleon complex.) I never went back. I hope Douglas recovers emotionally quickly. Dogs are so good at hiding their feelings. Take care of your hand Maggyann. I hope it’s not too sore. I don’t blame you one bit for kicking that dog. The owner should have been there immediately to pull off her dog. There are SO MANY bad owners and someone else always pays the price!Yell

So sorry Maggy. I hate it when pets get sick or hurt. Happy to hear Douglas is going to be okay. Good thing that dog didn’t bite his eye. Take care of that hand. Even though you were lucky and the skin wasn’t broken, it must be really sore.

Poor little Douglas! What a cutie he is! and the same name as my scottie pup!

I really do hope he is ok and recovered from the shock? and hope your hand is ok? It’s awful when people don’t take responsibility for their dogs. A similar thing happened to my older Scottish terrier, Archie when he was about 10 months old Frown

Aww Douglas is sweet, not hard to see why he can con you out of biscuits.
I hope he’s feeling a little better today.

Janet We get that here too, case in our local rag was where a dog attacked a yougster playing in the local park and the owner was no where to be found. Thankfully the dog had been microchipped, so the Police/RSPCA were able to trace it’s owner and take the suitable action. Turns out that as the owner is at work all day it takes the dog to the park first thing in the morning and leaves it there all day, and picks it up and takes it home when the owner has finished work.. Needless to say the RSPCA took the dog to the pound..

Maggy, I’m glad Douglas is feeling better. Mine has been attacked twice since I’ve had her, once when a dog warden was sitting in his van just watching! When I asked (ok, shouted) if he was going to do anything he asked if I had been bitten. When I said no he replied that he would only act if a dog had attacked a person! I pointed out that I had his name from his ID badge and that if I or anyone else did get attacked at a later date by this dog (especially a child), then any media groups I could get in touch with would be made aware of his response. Suprise, suprise, he then decided to take some action, although too late to stop the damage caused. Dog wardens, what a waste of space!
