First of all, the south so rarely gets snow like that, if we did it would be a once in a hundred years kind of thing.  Then, IF we got snow like that, everything (schools, businesses, banks, county government) would be completely shut down for at least a week.  No one would leave their house for at least 2 days–possibly 3–days, and tons of people would be without power–some for possibly up to 2 weeks.

We don't know how to deal with that kind of weather.  We pretty much just freak out.

Oh, we're freaking out up here, too. Did you see that picture of Lakeshore Drive (major highway in Chicago) that got so bad with the blizzard and the 20 inches of snow that 900 cars were stranded and the people had to just leave them or wait 12 hours for rescue? Of course, I can't find the picture they showed on the news and this pic doesn't really do it justice, but…

We ended up with 6 inches yesterday. Schools are open today and it`s a bright sunny day, cold at -20C (0F). ANd all the roads have been cleared.

Montreal got 9 inches, though.

It's always bunnies.

It was cold and windy today. They say maybe a little more snow in the next day or so. I successfully chipped my car out of the inch or more of ice it was encased in. I lucked out getting into the car by simply tugging on the passenger door handle a few times and it popped right open! I eventually broke both of my ice scrapers using them as ice picks, but once the heater/defroster warmed the car, it melted the layer attached to the car and I could hack off big slabs at a time. Then I realized the wheels were frozen to the ground with several inches of ice. I rocked back and forth from drive to reverse quite a few times and got the momentum to break free. It took about an hour and a half from leaving my door to wheels rolling. Whew!

It was rather anticlimactic to get out of my apartment complex and find the actual city streets no big deal. Yell My doctor's appointment was good – I'm cleared to go back to work, so I've e-mailed the boss to give her the head's up so she can match me up with someone's schedule that can give me a refresher reorientation since I've been off work a year. I was a little irked that my doc was over an hour late with my appointment since I had left my house 2 hours early to make sure I'd be on time (15 minutes early, actually!) for him. Doctors.

On the way home, Wal-Mart had ice scrapers for $5!
