Just watched the final episode. Richard and Elizabeth of York kissing? I guess they just had to put the old incest rumour in there somewhere…
I did really like the battle of bosworth but what was Margaret Beaufort doing there?!!!! But then it just sort of ended after that. A very unsatisfying ending, no telling us what happened to the characters in real life or anything.

I was half-expecting the ghost of Edward IV to parachute in, so the magical appearance of Margaret Beaufort was quite subtle by The White Queen‘s standards. Laugh

The White Queen just started here. I have watched 2 episodes and I fell asleep through both of them. I guess I am not impressed. I will have to decide whether I want to watch them again to catch up, or just skip the whole thing…hmmmm!
When did Margaret Beaufort become a crazy lady?

Ok so I’ve just watched all 10 episodes of the White Queen over the past 2 days (Yeah I know I’m booked in to see a shrink next week) but apart from the shoddy acting, the modern type costumes (ie zips) the cardboard looking crowns, plastic looking jewellery, and the snow in August (I don’t think so) in the last episode it was bareable.
Margaret Beaufort just got on my nerves, with her continued holier than thou attitude, I really wanted to rip her hair out to be honest.
Anne Neville was so pathetic it was laughable. Prince George, portrayal reminded me of Kevin the teenager (Harry Enfield), I half expected him to lay on the floor and kick and scream having a temper tantrum.
Edward well he was passable until the scene that Elizabeth caught him in bed with Jane Shore, then he just became a joke. Especially as he suddenly became pregnant with a pillow.
The only 2 actresses that played their parts with any form of real conviction were Jaquetta, and Duchess Cicerly, and even they were at times a little OTT in their acting.
The whole series in my opinion just seemed very disjointed and the storylines seemed forced and hurried. There were times that it didn’t seem to make sence, and it was almost as if the writers had trouble with keeping it under control (if that makes sence).
What was up with the Neville girls? Wooden wasn’t the word, their acting ability (if it could be called that) was so bad that a couple of trained chimps could have have done a better job.
The witchcraft scenes were so funny. A true witch cannot control the forces of nature, they use nature to heal not harm. I am White Witch myself so these scenes really bugged me. We do not use our powers to harm anyone or anything EVER. We work with Mother Nature and she works with us.
Just for the record few of us are honoured enough by her to be given special gifts, I have been honoured by her for she has given me the gift of seeing and healing troubled souls, what was once broken I can heal.

So, apart from everything, you enjoyed it, Bo? Laugh

To be fair though, I think JRM is absolutely terrible as Henry in The Tudors but I understand why many here would disagree; it’s all about opinions. Smile

I think the JRM played a good part with young Henry, but his older Henry was really laughable. He just didn’t convince me as we all know that after the debarkle of his marriage with AOC he became a terrible tyrant, and to be honest JRM was still too nice if that makes sence.
As for the White Queen, I neither liked or disliked it, it was something to pass the time I suppose. I’m sure S.W.M.N.B.N was in seventh heaven with it as it’s just what we can expect from her cooked up fantasy dramas although I was surprized she hadn’t insisted on chucking in a few pixies, faries and unicorns just to liven things up a little.
I’m also very surprized she didn’t want to elaborate on the Melasina myth either. I could just see EW stepping out of the Thames and giving a her tail a good shaking, actually strike that unzipping her tail and hanging it out to dry. and velcroing her legs back on so she could walk back into the castle and act like nothing had happened. I was also disappointed not to see any ice cream hats, Would have been good to see Margaret Beaufort standing on the bank with an ice cream hat in her hand shouting through it, “come on in your majesty your time is up”

Sharon Margaret Beaufort is crazy, her attitude really gets up my bugle. If she was a bloke I’d want to punch her lights out, guess I’ll just have to settle for giving her a slap, with a slice of lemon wrapped around a housebrick instead ;)

Laugh Says it all about PG’s version of history that I could actually imagine her writing a scene like that. No joke at all.

And you were right about the witchcraft scenes; they might as well have had Liz doing the ol’ nose-twitching Bewitched thing. If the Woodvilles’ witchery was so powerful, why the bugger didn’t they totally destroy their enemies? Gawd blimey…

The White Queen is airing now in Australia, it’s up to episode 5, I think. I really like it, the actors are amazing and some of the scenes (like Isabel’s miscarriage on the ship during the storm) are extremely pent-up and emotional. I’m looking forward to watching the next episode this Friday. :)

Just watched The White Queen episode 8 yesterday. It was terrible, far worse than previous episodes. I hated how they changed the events in the book to suit the tv series. Anne Neville was so annoying with her fear of Elizabeth Woodville and her insistence that Richard take the throne for himself. She seemed too full of herself to me by the end of the episode. And Margaret Beaufort actually tricked the Yorks and Rivers into not trusting each other? Ridiculous!

The thing that really irritated me was how they changed Anthony’s role. In the book, Anthony was arrested alongside Richard Grey by Richard of Gloucester while trying to return Edward V to Elizabeth Woodville. In the tv series, Anthony was still in London with Elizabeth and tried to help her by trying to get Richard to work with her (or something like that). And he was sleeping with Jane Shore! What a load of bull! Historically Jane Shore never slept with Anthony, she slept with Hastings and later EW’s son Thomas Grey.

I could accept the other historical inaccuracies in the previous episodes of The White Queen, but it has come to the point where the inaccuracies have become ridiculous (for me, anyway. I know a lot of people on this forum have not liked the historical inaccuracies in The White Queen from the beginning).

I will continue to watch The White Queen until the end, anyway, to see what happens. Sorry for the rant, but I felt I had to get this whole thing off my chest, so to speak.

The last 2 episode will really get up your Bugle then Anna. I’ll say no more. But yes I agree Anne Neville is annoying. If memory serves, in real life Hastings was executed shortly after Dickon took the throne. He was taken out out and executed on a pile of logs, with a woodman’s axe. Jane shore was made to do penance, for being a slattern, had to walk around the town in her shift carrying a lighted candle or something, and then throw herself on the mercy of the church to help absolve her wicked ways, or something like that anyway.
The thing is with any T.V historical drama they have to spice it up like this because if you read the factual side of things for the most part, court life and what went on within it was really very dull and tedious, lots of standing about, waiting until the King/Queen decided what they wanted to do.

OK so I managed to track down the complete series during the Christmas madness and have only just found time to sit down and begin watching. I watched Episode 1 last night and it didn’t grab me the way The Tudors did. I blame this on 2 things, one is I have very little knowledged of The War Of the Roses so I basically have no idea who is who and which Richard belongs where and which Edward is who and don’t even get me started on the Elizabeth’s and Margarets. So I admit that is my fault not the shows. The 2nd blame is the shows, I feel I was just dumped into the era and expected to knowwho every one was and their alliances and perhaps I have also read PGs books, they are sitting on my shelf collecting dust. I know you can’t spend ages plotting out links and what not, but I felt they did a poor job establishing the major players. Hell if I didn’t know Margaret Beaufort was The Red Queen I would have just thought her character was some crazy woman n red in the crowd. Obviously I will give it a go and watch all episodes, but I’m not sure if I will be paying full attention.

Any fellow Aussies know if we got the BBC version or the US version? Cause if we got the BBC version I really don’t want to watch the p*rn version the US got.

The episode did highlight a bit of intertnal conflict that I have learnt I have regarding the royal family. I believe Edward IV is a legit ruler and support his claim 100% and his children claim. I really don’t know much about Henry VI’s claim and imagine this show will do little to enlighten me with it. but I feel Edward beating henry is always the right thing. But I consider Richard III to not have a legit claim (probably cause he took it away from a minor) so support the idea of Henry VII defeating him. So on paper I’m a confused York/Lancaster supporter aren’t I? I had no idea about this hypocritical support until I watched the 1t episode and I realised who I was supporting meant on paper I don’t want the Tudors to succeed.

It’s passable Bill I wouldn’t say it’s brilliant. Like you it didn’t grab me like the Tudors did. At times I did find the storyline a little disjointedand it is certainly different from the books, but I will give it a 5/10. As for Richard taking the throne. I understand why he did it, but not the methods he used to do it.
MB charater I find extremely confusing, and at times creepy. One minute she comes across as a whiter than white holier than thou sort of person and then in the next breathe is trying to all but get Jasper Tudor into bed. Even more disturbing was her almost cloying attitute toward her son., small wonder in the first few episodes he avoided her.

The last part I found very disjointed and rushed almost the point of stupidity. Snow in August? I don’t think so…..however after Henry Tulip defeated R3 it did pose a question for me, who was the one who actually killed R3 did Henry Tulip give him the final sword blow or who?

Having read a little more on the WOTR now. I believe that R3 actually might have won, the whole battle was a shambles to be honest and IMHO I believe that it was the Earl of Oxford who created the confusion that led to R3 death, although Stanley didn’t help the situation by sitting things out until he decided who to support. From what I’ve read, it was a misty morning and when the forses joined battle, the Earl of Oxford got stuck in, but mistook R3 banners for Henry Tulip’s and of course started slaughtering R3 troops think they were enemies, that in turn started problems with R3 vanguard by the time the earl of Oxford had realised his mistake it was too late, and it was then that Stanley declared for Henry Tulip. and the rest they say is history.

Boleyn — although you may not like parts of the White Queen — at least you get to watch it. I saw the 1st episode, but since I don’t have Starz, which ran the series, it wouldn’t let me see any more episodes :( I think you English take these type shows much more seriously than us American cousins!! We get to see so little of this type series, we are just glad to see anything writers throw at us. And too, very few of us have any knowledge of medieval England anyway. I wish I could view the other episodes of WQ, maybe later, Youtube will have them posted. Everyone have a Happy New Year!!!!Laugh

True Barnett it does at times seem as if the American television people seem to be a slow in showing brit tele over there. I’m led to believe they are still showing episodes of Benny Hill, and he’s been dead donkey’s years, plus the humour now is very old hat (not funny anymore).
However you do have that bloody awful Reign series over there, and you can keep it too. LOL
Hope you are ok. From what I’ve seen on the news here it looks like America is taking a battering weather wise right now, we not had snow yet (fingers crossed it stays that way) but we have had some nasty wind storms and rain which has caused a lot of hassle. Flooding wise we ok living on top of a hill does help there, although Maidstone and Yalding have been flooded out but they are bottom of a hill, so all the water tends to run down that way. The wind however has completely destroyed the fences in the back garden, but nothing we can do about that until the council go back to work on Monday. I’ve a feeling they will have a busy time of it too as many of the houses around here have had somesort of damage. At least fences can be easily repaired, a house down the road had it’s chimney go and as a esult it’s a whole new roof for them, as well as a huge bill for their car as some of the bricks smashed down onto his car. So he’s not a happy bunny as you can imagine.
I”l have a look my end for the WQ episodes and try and email them to you or post them here, for you to watch.
Anyway Have a very happy new year and I hope that you get all you wish for in 2014. we had a pretty quiet Chrimbo and new year just the way we like it really although we did have a reason to celebrate, as I’m now a great aunt to a beautiful little boy born on 22nd December, called Charlie Jon, although I call him Little Frazzle.

CONGRATS! on the nephew, Lorna, just don’t spoil him! Yes, we are having quiet a bit of bad weather — no snow, just terribly cold! Next Monday night the low is supposed to be down to zero F. But for ONLY a couple of nights then back into the mid 40s for highs the rest of the week. Guess we can suffer through a few days like that. Everything about the same here in Kentucky, working some of our family tree, sometimes rewarding and at other times a bit of a disappointment, when I fail to be able to follow through on a particular line. I’m still working through our connection to Mary Boleyn; fairly certain of our direct connection to her, however, a couple of questions still haunt me in that line. Wishing you and your family stay well this winter season and remember: Spring is only 8 weeks away! Larry in Kentucky Wink
