I may be the only person who feels this way, but TOBG was, in all honesty, entertaining enough to pique my interest to get me looking into the actual REAL history, whether the movie itself was historically accurate or not. It's unfortunate, but sex-ing up an already interesting subject is a way to get it to the masses. In my opinion, that's why you see so many movies that say “BASED on a true story” instead of “THIS IS the real story”. Sometimes you have to take a subject and add some glitter and glam to make it widely appealing.
Sadly, my schooling system did NOTHING in terms of educating on the reign of H8 and the effects it had on English, if not all of European history. It took me seeing a trailer for The Tudors and being interested in the movie after seeing it's jacket to want to learn more. In a way, I almost like all of the inaccuracies, because it makes me want to learn more and research what really happened as opposed to what the show depicted. It's also a little fun to correct people when they start conversing with me on the subject of H8: “Oh, he was the one who had all those wives because he couldn't keep it in his pants!” Me: “Well, no, that wasn't really it… do you have 3 hours? I can tell you what REALLY happened!”
