David Loades has a new biography on Henry’s sister Mary out. I’ve just ordered it from Amazon.uk but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it? I’m hoping it’ll be good as I’ve always wanted to read a bio just on Mary herself.
I see Norah Lofts has one out on Anne Boleyn too, but I’m assuming that’s just a re-issue of her earlier work?

I’ve been wondering about this book, too. I would love to know your thoughts on the book. Then, I can finally make a decision about ordering it.
Good to see you back Duchess.
I’ve not seen this one yet but I think David Loades wrote a book about Anne Boleyn, which I quite enjoyed. I’ll go put it on my wish list.

Well, I’ve finished it now… and I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. I didn’t learn much about Mary herself that I didn’t already know and it seemed great sections of the book were devoted to Charles Brandon’s finances. I did, though, enjoy learning more about her children but if you’re looking for a thorough, in depth study of Mary then this isn’t it. There were a few mistakes throughout the book, even at one point calling Mary Anne but I think those were more likely to be typos – least I hope so! I know David Loades can do far better than this and maybe he will in his next book on Katherine Howard, where there are perhaps far more sources.
