The Man Booker Prize bases it’s award on the quality of writing and not the accuracy of the historical content. The problem is that I think a lot of people seeing she’s won the prize will believe it’s accurate when that’s not true. It gives it a skewed credibility.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m rather a fan of Hilary Mantel, so please don’t hate me! I adore her unique prose and voice so good on her Smile
I don’t think she’ll win, though. Is there anywhere I can see the rest of the nominations?

Don’t feel bad Bella, I like Philippa Gregory, we all have our vices Wink

This is this years list. I’m not actually a fan of literary fiction anyway (really there’s no dragons or wizards in it is there?) so I can’t say I’ve read anything on that list other than Mantel’s book, which I read for a lark. So I couldn’t really guess who might win

Don’t worry, Bella. It’s far more likely that I’m hated for not liking her. It’s not her writing I hate, and that’s what the judges will be judging her on. I just worry that if she wins it then the public will think the historical accuracy will be vindicated.
Olga, I haven’t read any of the other nominations either.

Ooh just saw that ‘The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry’ by Rachel Joyce was nominated too. I totally recommend that to anyone who hasn’t read it Laugh
Ok, so that’s two on the list I’ve read this year!
