Hello everyone,

My name is Sarah and I’m from Germany.
I’m so glad I’ve found this amazing site about the adorable Anne Boleyn.
I’m already addicted to it.
Now I got a question..
well, I’m planning to do a trip to England. I want to get to know all the places related to Anne and I hope you can help me. It’s not that easy to dinf out all the places I should visit. On my list are Blickling Hall and of course the place where she’s buried.
But I also want to see portraits of her. Can anyone tell me in which museums or galleries I can find some portraits or artefacts?
I’m sorry for asking but it’s really not easy to find out, there are so many people telling different things.
And I gave up on reading books about Anne a long time ago cause it’s just irritating, you never know who’s telling the truth or not.

Hope to get some responses.
Greets and love,
Sarah

Hi Sarah and welcome to the ABFiles.
I’m in America and have never been to England, but if you going there, you must see Hever Castle in Kent where Anne lived with her family before she was queen. There is a portrait of Anne there. I think her Book of Hours is there too. I know the National Portrait Gallery has a portrait of Anne. Hampton Court is on my list as well as the Tower and St Peter Vincula, where she is buried.
Those are just a few places to visit. I’m sure there are additional places which others will add.
Enjoy!

Hello Sarah and welcome.
I have visited UK several times, and everytime try to visit some sites associated with the Tudors. I would recommend Hever Castle, Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace and National Portrait Gallery. These are the major sites, I guess, associated with Anne.
Otherwise, one of my favourite places is Penshurst Place in Kent. It has associates with Henry VIII, especially when he was courting Anne. Somewhere like Westminster Abbey or the Great Hall at the Palace of Westminster, or Leeds Castle (they have Anne’s supposed jewelry box).
These are off the top of my head. There are far more informed people on the forum, who could better answer these questions. However, I hope I’ve been of some help. Best of luck planning your trip!

Bonjour et bienvenue, Sarah.

I”m afraid I have to other places than those Sharon and the Duchess have already mentioned. Unless you want to try for places like Iron Acton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Acton). I lived near there for 8 years and didn’t know about it and so never visited.

I beleive nasim, another member here, has visited and wrote an article about the house.

eta nasim’s article..http://www.theanneboleynfiles……s-of-1535/

It's always bunnies.

First of all.. thank you all very much!

I’ve never been to England and I’m sure the first time won’t be the last time but of course I want to see as much as possible when I’m there :)
I know Germany isn’t that far away but somehow I couldn’t make it to England yet :(
And I guess to visit all those places within one vacation will be a bit expensive, so I really have to plan this trip very well and must be sure what I want to see.
You guys helped me a lot :)

Willkommen Sarah to our Boleyn Family home. We are a mixed bunch of scallywags, who enjoy lively debate and sharing the odd joke or 2 along the way too. I look forward to reading your posts.

You will surprized Sarah when you see just how many people there are who love Anne. I was blown away by it to be honest. Anne is my hero, a brilliant, gifted and far sighted woman. Simply incredible. I was so glad when I found this site, it’s not easy to hammer out an opinion on what you feel may have went on in those times with a dinosaur for a husband and other who aren’t into history. I have learned so much here, and you will find Sharon, Anyanka, Louise Claire, and one or 2 others a complete goldmne of information as well as being completly barmy, although not as barmy as me, and I like to throw in the odd little fireball now and again to spice things up a little, but everyone here is used to my mad off the latch ideas, but to new members they can be a little shocking at times.

Agreed Sharon I live but about an hour and half drive from Hever Castle and literely 5 minutes drive from Rochester Castle and Abbey both are extremely beautiful. The Abbey have the most wonderful archtechtra. The tombs are magnificent too. the carving on them is breathtaking, and they recently opened up the vaults for visitors too one can feel a deep sence of peace inthere. The monks must have truly loved the place. Rochester too is a reak=l mix of different time era’s of course anyone familar with Charles Dickens would know that he lived in Rochester, when he was younger and in Chatham also just up the road again from my home. Most of Charlie’s books are based on people he knew as a child in Rochester, and he died in Higham again not far from here and made the request he wanted to be laid to rest in Rochester Abbey but the Victorians nabbed him and buried him in Westminster Abbey instead. It’s said his ghost haunts the grounds of the Abbey looking sadly at the ground where he had once hoped to lie in peace.
Upnor Castle is another little fortified little castle on the Medway river which Elizabeth 1st stayed at many times especially during the Armada scare. She rode to Tilbury from there to address the troops again to do with the Armada scare.
Pocohontas is buried in Gravesend Cemetary. We have a couple of Forts down here as well which were heavily arms and used during the napolinic wars. and the Maritime Museum.
Dover Castle is beautiful. and on the beach is a memorial to Captain Matthew Webb, who was the first man to swim the channel to France. Who happens to be an ancestor of mine.
You are going to have a very busy time in England Sarah I hope you enjoy it here. England isn’t brilliant but hey it’s my home and I love it.

Wow.
You are so lucky to live so near by all those amazing places!
And I couldn’t agree more with your words about Anne. I’m totally fascinated by her and I don’t know.. it might sound a bit creepy but it just feels like I have to go there and visit all those places. To get to know her more. Feel what she felt, see what she saw. She’s a hero to me.
And I have to say, it’s so interesting what you told about Dickens. And about Pocahontas.
I think, you’re right, I’m gonna have a very busy time there Laugh
But I’m looking forward to it, it’s gonna be the best stress ever :)

It’s not creepy at all Sarah. I have the very same feeling. To actually walk where Anne walked and to touch the things she used would be heaven to me and it will be the closest we will ever get to be to her. Pity Steven Hawking doesn’t put his theory (which is perfectly logical) of time travel into practise as I would love to go back and take her off the Scaffold and bring her forward to our time and keep her safe. However I might just like to pop back quickly, and with a steel capped boot kick Henry straight between the legs and send his codpiece and his dooberries across the room before coming back and laughing with Anne about it.

Glad to know I’m not the only one who feels that way.
And I like your idea pretty much Laugh
If it was possible, we all would help you I guess. Oh it would be heaven to be able to talk to her and to get to know the real story.. she’d deserve to put right all the rumours and myths about her.
