Hello, my name is Ethan and I am from the United States (Western Pennsylvania). I am 22 years old and am currently a student at my local college, where I am a history major. I have not decided what I wanted to do with my history degree after school yet, but I just know that history is what I have a passion for, and is something I excel at. When I am not studying history I like to hang out with friends, go to parties, go to the casino and play Texas Holdem, Blackjack, & Baccarat, write short stories & poetry, play guitar & write music, working with technology (specifically my new PC), playing video/computer games, watching movies & television, and just being around people & learning new things every day.

One of my favorite eras of history has always been the Renaissance. It is the combination of the old world with its superstition & problems with the emergence of new ideals & technologies (Not to mention Columbus finding the America’s in 1492 which opened up a whole new world to Europeans.) In any case for the longest time I didn’t really know much about Anne Boleyn until I came across Showtime’s “The Tudors”. I hate myself for not knowing her story then, but the public education system in America is poor and all I the history I learned was always out of self-interest and came through my own exploration and research, not through high school. I figured I would write just a little bit about why I find Anne Boleyn so fascinating.

Anne is one of the most amazing women in history, and one of my favorite people in history as well. Everything I can find about Anne has been fascinating to read. How she earned the affection of King Henry VIII is a major achievement in its own, but also being a leading figure in the reformation and pushing aside Catholic superstition that held its grip on England ever since its founding by Alfred the Great, I found inspiring. Furthermore, although I love the Tudor world, women were not respected or even treated with the greatest dignity at times if one looks at women in Tudor England, so this make’s Anne’s achievement more glorious! She also gave birth to Elizabeth I, the greatest English monarch of all time.

The most inspiring for me is Anne’s downfall which is very heartbreaking, but how bravely she faced it all. Anne went from having Henry saying that he was “her servant” (I believe he said this in the actual letters that he sent to Anne) to signing her death warrant. I know there is much debate among historian’s wither if Anne truly loved Henry & if Henry really loved Anne, but I think they did love each other. Henry changed after that injury at that joust on January 24th, 1536. On May 19th, 1536 just about five months later, Anne is executed. Something doesn’t add up there. But reading the final accounts of how Anne spent her last days in the tower, she had so much dignity and strength when she had lost everything, it gives me courage when I feel I have lost everything in my life. In her speech, at her trial she defends herself brilliantly, and when she went to the scaffold, she died with honor.

I hate how some (very few but still) historians say that Anne was guilty of the charges against her. This is a complete falsehood, because if you look at the indictments against Anne Boleyn and her so called lovers, and where they were supposed to be when they fornicated, they were not even there. Historians have said they were recorded to be at other places on those dates, but I guess even that could not save Anne, George, Smeaton, and others. I feel it is my job as a historian to set the record straight, and Anne would of wanted us to do so. I hate how people make up these false rumors saying “she had six fingers”, “she was a witch”, etc. This is just Catholic propaganda that seems to of never disappeared.

I have used Claire’s site for a while now with my research on The Tudor Kings, Queens, & Anne Boleyn, but I have never noticed it had a forum until a couple days ago. In any case, I am glad to be joining the forum, and am hoping to contribute to the conversations taking place here and make some new friends. Nice to be a part of your community!

PS: Happy Holidays!

Thank you, Sharon. I was afraid my introduction might of been a little to long or detailed, but I love to write and explain myself! Lol. I feel Anne would be proud of the work we all are doing; As she said in her tower speech before sentencing, (I am paraphrasing here) that is one should judge her case then one should do it fairly, and I feel that Anne Boleyn Files, & the Anne Boleyn Files Forum does that quite well! I look forward to contributing to your great community! 🙂

Alas! I’m a Brit living in Quebec. My written French is fairly bad. Though my spoken French isn’t too bad nor is my reading ability.

It's always bunnies.
