Another hello...

Hello, all! I can’t tell you how excited I am to find this forum. As many of you probably can relate, it can be a lonely world when your mind is trapped in the 16th century. I trust I am not the only one who often finds themselves on the receiving ends of many baffled faces, and the occasion eye roll, when skipping along some historical tangent?

I had been following (and lurking around) The Anne Boleyn Files on Facebook for a while now, which I had fortuitously found through either The Tower of London or Hever Castle pages, I think. I loved reading the site, but never got up the nerve to join up to the forum, but with today being “Anne Boleyn Day”, it seemed as perfect a day as any.

So, anyway…that’s how I found my way here, and I can’t wait to jump in to some of the discussions. 🙂

Hi Luanni, and welcome. You are definitely not the only one who gets an ‘eyeroll’ when speaking about this period. We are all quite used to it. So glad you decided to join the forum, and I will be looking forward to reading your posts. Don’t be shy. We are passionate about the history, and we respect all opinions. Enjoy!

Well said Sharon.
All posts no matter how off the latch they are, are read with enthusiasm and respected, just as much as the poster is (or should that be postee?). We don’t judge anyone’s postings, in fact we welcome them greatly as they give us something more to discuss, and at times get us to look at the question/point/opinon raised in a different perspective.
As for off the latch ideas I guess I can claim some merit for that, as at times I do throw the odd little fire ball into the forum.
I also have a few choice names for some our more colourful heroes and villians, as you will soon learn.
As Sharon rightly says, we are all passionate about history, and have the greatest respect for each and every member old and new.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I’m glad that I’m not alone in my obsession, and with driving everyone crazy with my constant history babbling. LOL

I also gotta say, that I love this board’s stance on discussions and opinions. Sure it’s nice to agree, but I love a good debate and a friendly argument, and I like to learn from our differences, That’s how we learn. 🙂

Luanni:
It’s always good to hear another person’s view and whilst we may not always agree with certain things that are posted on the forum, we are adult enough to agree to disagree.
You certainly aren’t on your own here, and we all have spouses that are not as nutty as we all are about history.
Take my old crumbly Dinosaur, for instance whenever I happen to mention anything historical he completely switches off. But from time to time some of the history I know comes in handy.

LOL, Boleyn! 🙂 I’m definitely used to being tuned out on a regular basis. I am partial to thinking my historical knowledge comes in handy all the time, too…OK, mostly when I’m playing Jeopardy, but that aside, I think it helps understand current affairs, too. I just try to learn to filter my nuttiness. Haha…Doesn’t always work, though…

I gave up trying to filter out my nuttiness, and being married to a dinosaur it does help to be nutty. As the old maxim says “You don’t have to be mad to live here, but it sure as hell helps.” Dinosaur’s many crazy moments include, Supergluing his mouth shut and getting a traffic cone stuck on his head to name just 2 of his mad moments.

LOL, I’m familiar with that saying! In the end filtering doesn’t do much good for me either. Sounds like you’ve got a good balance there, and off topic, I have an irrational fear of superglue…never managed to superglue my mouth yet (probably to a few people’s dismay), but I have glued fingers and hands together. To be fair it isn’t just Dinosaur who has run the gauntlet with superglue (or Stupidglue as Dinosaur calls it) I managed to stick my knickers to my bum with it. I was stood by the window and was using it to stick the sole of my shoe back on, and placed the tube on the arm of the settee then…. yeah you have guessed I had sat down on the tube. It was only after my bum started to get a little warm I realised what I had done, and quickly got up (well as quickly as one could being glued to the settee) and ran to the bathroom. Lets just say I had tears in my eyes, when I finally managed to prize myself out of my knickers.
Dinosaur’s traffic cone incident was made all the worse by the fact it had one of those orange flashing lights on the top of it.
It is a veritable madhouse here, but strangely there is also a very relaxed atmosphere, we simply don’t do stress. But we all have one thing that sadly most of the younger generation seem to lack. We love each other devotedly, Dinosaur drives me mad at times but I wouldn’t be without him.

I can’t believe I haven’t been here in 6 days already! What a week! Family stuff, then job interviews. Everything happens all at once when I’m just trying to jump into something new (i.e., this place!) C’est la vie!

Edit: I tried to search for the answer to this, but I didn’t see it posted. How do we get avatars to work? I made one, but it just comes up as an empty box, and as you can see it’s just showing the default avy.
I love your stories! I don’t think I have any that could equal those…I have terrible fingernails, so on occasion I do apply fake ones, and one day, I dropped the entire bottle of nail glue down my hand and onto my glass desk and laptop. The hands and fingers stuck together…that was painful, but I got them apart with nail polish remover. (And not as painful as having cloth glued to your person!) But then that made the glass and the plastic on my laptop funny, so I guess I have a nice reminder not to abuse the glue anymore. Though I have to admit, I would kind of enjoy being glued to a blinking traffic cone, you could start a party…or your own rave! Cool Haha! I mean, it could be fun along with the embarassing part.

And I do agree…love and patience seems to be a dying artform and that makes me sad, but at the same time, it gives me hope that there is love like that out there for you guys. Kiss Y’all sound sweet together. <3

I get so distracted by reading the threads that I haven’t gone through the whole board yet, and I was wondering, is there a "social" section, where you can just chat about silly things like the weather, your toe hurting, and other trivial matters? I don’t want to go "off topic". Laugh

Luanni this is where Claire told us to get our avatars. Some of us had problems initially, but we finally managed to get ours. Keep trying.

Thanks for the info, both of you! Kiss It takes me a while to get my bearings straight at new boards. 😀 Will check out the off topic thread and the avy link, too…
