I saw this on a site this morning. I had never seen the whole letter. This letter was written by Alexander Ales, a Scottish theologian to Elizabeth about the death of her mother, Anne. I have read part of the letter in which he tells the story of how Anne pleaded with Henry with Elizabeth in his arms. I had never seen the entire letter before. It is very interesting.

Thanks for that link Sharon it was a very good read. The image of Anne holding Elizabeth and begging the King is very powerful. Charming description to send to a daughter too the bit about Anne’s neck.

Wow, I wonder if Elizabeth had any memory of Anne what so ever? I know she was only 3 (?) but I read a article once about children of 9-11 and this one girl said she had a memory of her late father when she was 2 years old.

• Grumble all you like, this is how it’s going to be.
