Hey
I am an undergradute uni student and i am so interested in Anne Boleyn, i have decided to write my 12000 word dissertation on some aspect of her. However my only problem is is that it has to be original. Obviously there has been loads and loads written about Anne so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what hasnt been written about much or any original topic ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Amber!
From my experience of writing a dissertation I have to say that it's a huge assest writing about a subject you're passionate about. I was only moderately interested in my dissertation topic and even that helped a great deal.
Is there any element of Anne's life that particularly interests or intrigues you? Most books focus on her rise to power or her fall, so some other aspect might be a good way forward. Did you want to write about something personal, like her relationship with people, or a larger issue, like her hand in the Reformation?

Hey, thank you!
well i was keen to write about the downfall of Anne and the reasons for it, looking into documents suggesting adultry and incest etc but i know this has been written about before a fair bit!
I was thinking about something to do with how far she was manipulated by her family etc or was it her own actions or love etc but im so unsure!
I want to be able to explore her as a person and look at relationships and social factors, rather than ending up doing a political history or anything

It is difficult to find something that hasn't been covered already but the joy with the topic of Anne Boleyn is that we don't know the complete truth about many aspects of her life, so you can write your own “take” on her. How about her personal faith? You have John Foxe writing about her as a Protestant heroine and Alison Weir pointing out that she lived and died a Catholic. You could tie this in with the Reformation and look at whether she really did have a role in the English Reformation.
Your idea about Anne and her motivations is also a great one – was she manipulated or was she ambitious herself?
Also, you could explore her relationships with those around her and look at what she was like as a person, friend, relative, wife and Queen.
Just some ideas!

Those are all great ideas, i think you are right, i will just have to write my own “take” on her.
Its given me a lot to think about so thank you!
I willl keep thinking, most likely i will do the one about her motivations……..i had thought about looking into her faith but i would then have to go into religious history of the reformation which doesnt interest me as much.
But we shall see, im still open to anything at the moment, choosing a dissertation is such a daunting task!!

This is probably not helpful but when I have trouble thinking of a specific topic I just start skimming my materials and writing free form about whatever interests me among the books or articles. Usually after I've written a couple pages some ideas will start to come together.
