I'm absolutely in love with it.

Does anyone know who gave it to her or when she came in possession of it? Was it something she wore very often?

Forgive me if this was already discussed or there is an article on it somewhere on the site, there is so much information here and I'm still navigating through everything on this site little by little. Haha.

Also, I wanted to know if the Anne Boleyn “A” necklace is still available, because I'm hoping I can convince my mom to get it for me as a Christmas present. 😀 I assume since it's still under products it's still for sale, but I just wanted to make sure. And I have a friend who wants to know if it's possible to get one made for her as a “K”?

This person does personalised Anne Boleyn necklaces – http://www.etsy.com/listing/62…..ecklace.

No one knows whether Anne commissioned the necklace, or was given it as a gift. It seemed to be interesting enough for people to comment on, however, so perhaps she did have it commissioned herself, and started a trend.

She was a trend setter! Imagine the craze for personalized name pendants and it all started in the 1500's with our Anne Smile

Haha I wonder if those horrible 'sexy' and 'cute' slogan earrings and necklaces people wear are based on Anne's necklaces!

This is another one of the mysteries that have been speculated for hundreds of years.

Rumour has it that it was buried with her in the Chapel of Ad Vincula in the Tower grounds, but there is as far as I know no mention of it being there when the Victorians restored her grave and that of her cousin's Katherine. They simply mentioned that Anne was quite tall for a lady of that era, and then just put 2 plaques in the floor to state that she and her Cousin were buried there.. There was a rumour too that her remains aren't there anyway and that on the evening after her death her body was taken by supporters of her family and taken to the Boleyn County seat to be buried in the church there.

Another rumour concerning her “B” Necklace is that she gave it to one of her ladies on the scaffold and told her to give it to Elizabeth when she became Queen, or to keep it within her family for rememberance. If the lady in question did give it to Elizabeth, it's possible that it was just many of the pieces of Royal regalia broken up and melted down during Oliver Cromwell's reign, if not then it poses the questions Who was the lady Anne gave the necklace to? and Where is it now?

It is possible however that Henry himself kept it. He did keep a number of keepsakes from woman he knew, and again it was destroyed by Oliver Cromwell. Another possiblity is that Henry had the necklace melted down and recast.

Another possibility is that she gave it to her sister Mary, as a way of saying sorry for the way she treated her when Mary married William Strafford without Royal Permission. Mary remember lived more or less in exile and had little to no money, so maybe giving her the Necklace was a way of seeing that she had enough money to live on for a while. But if that was the case it still begs the question, Where is it Now? as Mary and William did have children who lived to adulthood and had children of their own, and they would have known through Mary about their Royal Aunt.

Mary died in 1542 but she surely would have left a will that would have given her children what meagre bits of jewellery she had.

Mya Elise: Stranger things have happened.. It wasn't long ago that an amatuer treasure hunter found one of the largest hoards of Saxon gold coins, swords and jewellery to date, in the corner of a farmers field.

If it did ever turn up it would be worth a fortune.. Maybe one day it will come to light. There are so many big country houses here and most of them have hidey holes especially since the reformation. Those who were loyal to the Pope had to hide their preists somewhere, whilst giving the appearence to all and sundry that they followed the new faith.

Glamis castle is one such place, if you count the number of rooms there are and then count the windows on the outside you will find that they don't match. (I.e 2 rooms should equal 2 windows, so where has the 3rd window come from?)

Maybe Anne's B necklace is hidden somewhere in one of Hever Castle's long forgotten rooms or hidey holes?

What an amazing discovery it would be to find Anne’s ‘B’ necklace! I’ll keep wishing!

I wish we knew about the history of Anne’s pendant; although initial pendants were popular in the 16th century.  I often wonder if she purchased it, or was given as a gift, while in France. Anne’s ‘A’ pendant was given to Elizabeth, since she wears in in the family portrait found at Hampton Court. But, I cannot recall any factual information about what happened to the ‘B’ pendant after her death. I imagine it would be given to Elizabeth, since it was not property of the crown.

Just my personal view here. Anne wears her ‘B” pendant in the NPG portrait. I wonder if this choice was to show her independence, even though she was married and Queen. It says to me that she will always be a Boleyn, regardless, and her loyalties are to her family.

Mya Elise.. I didn't know there were 2 necklaces?.. You learn something new everyday…

It's certainly a real brain buster on where these Necklaces came from? and who if anyone, gave them to her?

Maybe the Necklaces came from her great-grandmother Who before she married Geoffrey Boleyn was Anne Hoo.

and the A.B necklace was a gift to his wife Anne Hoo at some point in their marriage? Or perhaps they belonged to her Great Great Grandmother Alice Bracton. Things like Jewellery did pass down from one generation to the next..

I agree the necklace are unique and that's what makes them so mysterious too. Nothing like them have been made since.. Ok so the Necklace on The Tudors and other Tudor films come close but Anne Necklace/s seem to have a sort of magical power all of their own. She had and still has a very magnetic power which draws people to her even now..

I too love Anne’s ‘B’ and it is basically to be the basis and hopefully title of the story I am writing. Taking the ‘B’ from the 1300’s to that fateful year 1536. Does anyone know of any photograph of the ‘B’ which is not copyrighted so that I can play around with it in designing a cover?

My working title is

‘B’ (as in the actual charm with the drop pearls)
A Novel
not a History Book

It would be great if anyone knows of a photo I could play around with. Laugh

Anne gave the necklace to one of the ladies most sympathetic to her, and less of a mean spy than the others. To keep or to give, as she chose. Anne would not have been able to pass it on to Elizabeth herself. She entrusted it. Who gave Anne the necklace? Do we really want to know?
The answer is: G. B.Wink

Oh and the A necklace. She commissioned it for herself to wear, always having preferred A to B. Why did G give her the B necklace? Aha!

In Carolly Erickson’s book Bloody Mary, she mentions Mary having a M pendant ” set with three rubies, two diamonds and a huge pearl” (page 189)

It's always bunnies.

I’m not familiar with this author. Are her books historically factual? I don’t want to read another PG book and be angry.Wink

Janet,
I have The First Elizabeth, by Carolly Erickson. It is an older book, 1983, and it is non-fiction. I don’t have any others by her, but this one is good. I haven’t read it from cover to cover in a while. It may be a little dated, but it is a good reference book. I think she writes both.

I have The First Elizabeth too…It’s not too bad.

The only fiction I have by her is The Last Wife of Henry VIII. ON the plus side, KP marries a young Edward Bough, on the minus side Kp is giving birth at a beseiged Sudeley. I must read it again.

It's always bunnies.

Anyanka, is Bloody Mary fiction or non-fiction?
I might enjoy that one.

Non-fiction. But for the first half, it’s less about mary and more about Henry . It only picks up when she comes queen and is now central to her story.

It's always bunnies.
