It was once thought that this portrait only dated back to the 18th or 19th century but it is now known to be an original from 1547-1553.

The colours in this portrait are quite stunning and it is a much more informal portrait of Elizabeth than those painted during her reign – beautiful.

  1. where is the original necklace that anne boleyn wore?

  2. Claire says:

    Hi Cindi,
It is thought that some of her jewellery, including her B necklace and an A necklace, were handed on to her daughter, Elizabeth I, but then they seem to disappear. Nobody knows where Anne’s jewellery went after Elizabeth died.

  3. Angelina says:

I wonder if Elizabeth would’ve given them to her cousin, Lettrice, or to Catherine Carrey to keep them in the Boleyn family.

  4. miladyblue says:

Is it possible, during the time of Oliver Cromwell, that any jewelry that might have belonged to Anne was melted down? That, supposedly, is the fate of Katharine of Aragon’s crown as Queen of England.

Too, Anne had a lot of pearl jewelry, and at the time, pearls were more precious than diamonds. Maybe whoever got hold of it after Elizabeth’s death sold it?

Anne had exquisite taste in jewelry. Too bad little, if any of it, is extant.

  5. miladyblue says:

Whoops! To add, would there be any chance of seeing an enlarged picture of Mary Rose as Queen of France? I love that picture, and all I ever see of it is large pictures in black and white, or the one tiny print of it in color, such as the one posted here on the site.

  6. holly says:
