Erin took this stunning wall hanging image from a music book said to have been owned by Anne Boleyn – perhaps a gift from her friend, court musician Mark Smeaton. It features a falcon, the symbol of the Boleyn family, pecking at a Pomegranate, the symbol of Katherine of Aragon, Henry VIIIs first wife. It is believed this symbol was drawn after Anne had agreed to marry Henry, during the long years he pursued a divorce from his first wife.

Erin takes the image, transfers it on to weaver’s cloth and then punches tiny loops using a special twice threaded needle and hand dyed embroidery floss. Her punch needle tool is adjustable, so she is able to play with different layers. The pomegranates are done on a higher setting, as well as the Falcon’s wing – which adds lovely dimension and depth.

The punch needle portion is 4 1/4″ wide by 3″ tall. It is complimented by a sumptuous ornate 5″ x 7″ frame. The frame is 9 1/2″ wide by 7 1/2″ tall on the outside. See “More Details” for slideshow.
