Has anyone watched the Spanish tv show Isabel? It is about Isabel of Castille, Katherine of Aragon’s mother. It is in spanish but has English subtitles. I’ve recently started to watch it and I really love it so far. It reminds me of The Tudors so if anyone is looking for a show similar to that I definitely reconmend it. I don’t know how historically accurate it is because I hardly know anything about Isabel but it has sparked my interest in her a lot and I think I’ll check out a few books about her. If anyone hasn’t watched it all 3 seasons are on Hulu if you have it.

Yes I have watched it it was very good.. Of course you know that Isabella had to fight for throne in the first place. Juana la Beltrana was named as heir to the Castillian throne originally. Named la Beltrana as it was widely believed that Isabella’s brother was not la Beltrana father.
When Isabella took the throne she gave La Beltrana a choice, either marry her son Juan or enter a nunnery, La Beltrana chose the Nunnery. However she (La Beltrana) continued to sign any letters she had as Juana la reina (the Queen) right up until her death. It was once believed as well that after Isabella’s death Ferdinand had considered marrying Juana, so he could keep his hands on Castille. I think Juana told him he could stick his marriage proposal right up his coalhole.
La Beltrana outlived her (half) Aunt Isabella and her (half) uncle Ferdinand, and died in 1530 aged 68.
