I was browsing Pinterest and was surprised to see a death mask with Anne Boleyn’s name under the picture. I have always read she was laid to rest right away. Has anyone heard of this?

This death mask has been identified as Mary Queen of Scots, it doesn’t mean that it is for sure though, as so many portraits have been mislabelled, over the years.
But I do think that this death mask is more than likely to be Mary Queen of Scots. Fat arse (Henry) was in so much of a hurry to rid himself of Anne B I doubt he would have wanted a death mask of her severed head to be made. When Anne was executed fat arse did his level best to rid the country as well as himself of all trace of her, in fact I don’t think her name was ever mentioned much around court after her execution.
I think fat arse mentioned it once in a veiled threat when Jane Seymour pushed her luck with him concerning Mary.. I think the sentence was “Do not meddle in the affairs of state and remember Anne Boleyn” Jane did remember and shut her trap.. for a little while.

Thank you. I have seen so many things online claiming to be Portraits of Anne painted when she was was alive it is unreal. I have had an interest in her for so long I am afraid if a true likeness was discovered I would be disappointed.
The discovery of the coin was not what I had in my mind at all. The again a damaged coin with only a side view is not much to go by.
I may like her to remain a little mysterious.

Bonjour et bienvenue..

Henry and/or Cromwell were so keen to rid themselves of Anne that I seriously doubt there would be a deathmask of her. She was shoved into a box and buried the same day not allowing for any kind of funerary rites befitting a queen to be performed.

The change from Queen Anne to Queen Jane in 2 weeks further cemented the brushing away of all traces of Anne.

Sadly I don’t do pintreast..Do you have another link so I can see the picture?

It's always bunnies.

I completely agree with you. I think if a death mask had been made we would have heard about it. It’s sad really we don’t have a proper image of such an important and influental woman in English history, well world history because of one big, fat, selfish a-hole.
I imagine that as much as the King loved her (in the beginning) that he had probably quite a few portraits commissioned of her. I hate to think of all the history that Henry destroyed.

I don’t think Anne B was laid to rest straight away, as in his haste to be rid of her fat arse (Henry) had neglected in providing a coffin for her. Kingston had to scratch around to find something suitable. An old arrow chest was quickly found and Anne’s body (complete with head) was placed in it and taken to the chapel for burial. It is rumoured that Anne’s broken body lay on the scaffold for about half and hour after her death, before the arrow chest was found, and that it was discovered that the chest wasn’t big enough to put her body in to it as you normally would, her head was tucked under her arm. This may or may not be true, but I believe the Victorians did find a body as I’ve just described and identified the remains as Anne’s.
The Victorians were a macabre lot, and would have got a great deal of excitement over this shock horror discovery. Anything to brighten up their otherwise dull and humdrum lives.
